California,

What are your thoughts on a YM1720D? Have you seen these in person? Or know of folks with them? For the range of machine IRQVET is looking for, it tends to be a nice machine overall. In an orchard with the FEL and the power steering, it would be an ideal choice. Tree pruning on the FEL lift platform and navicating around each bush/tree would be needed. Then to cover the tree/bushes, the ability to navigate in tight quarters would be agile enough.
All I know about them is what I just read in your post above:
If you found a YM1720D, it has the 3-cly 3T75 popular engine just like the US models, has 4WD, and OE power steering. ... Should I ever need a smaller versatile Yanmar this would be it hands down. 20Hp engine with 17Hp out the PTO. ...
This sounds ideal. The power steering is a huge advantage, everything else will be a perfect match to small-scale farming.

I like my YM186D for orchard use because I can pass between closely-planted trees where the ROPS on the YM240 has ripped off limbs. But the more powerful YM1720D would be an even better match to my application.

A loader isn't really practical as a work platform in the orchard. When its raised its too hard to climb up onto it, and climb down with a filled harvest bag (like a newsboy bag, or giant purse), it gives only a single height before it's too high to climb up, and I can never get it parked where I need the height. The ladder lets me work at various heights and is easily moved around to the next gap in the branches.

In summary just get the YM1720D if, as I said, the warranty is credible. It's a great model.

Now that's really nice! :drink:

My thought was a FEL with a man-basket or man-access-platform to reach higher in the trees for pruning or picking. Didn't find any real Yanmars with this, but the JD siblings do it. :D

California and I got to meet fact to face when I was shopping for my first tractor over at Sacramento Tractor in the north side of Sacramento. Vana was a nice person to deal with and honored her warranties well, even with me moving over to Nevada. First lesson learned from that transaction was to get a tractor you can get parts and support for where you live. I got a great deal when buying the reconditioned tractor, and to be sure, it is a quality product, but the VN recons were put out the door with the minimum work at the rebuilder in VN. If they were still in business, would not hesitate to do business with Vanna again. Over the years, I split that tractor 3 times for minor stuff. I I am lucky to have the facilities to do so. The tractor I sold in the end brought me a profit, but that came at a high labor personal investment. If your time is money ( and in most cases it is ) it's hard to call this a profit. Most folks want to fill the tank with diesel and be able to use it, not rebuild it along the way. Where I lived there is a John Deere dealer and a Kubota dealer. What I learned along the way is that it isn't what brand your machine is as much as it is how well it is supported locally to keep you up and running. Megan and Cathy over at the local John Deer dealer both exceeded that mark. ( Renner Equipment in Smith, NV ) Bet my 970TLB came off the same Yanmar production line that my YM3000 came off of, just a better local part supply and local support. Thank you,
Chris

Advise going to TractorCo and look around. take their advice on whats right for you and best for finding parts for.
Go as big as you can. Less chance for breaking one.

My 20hp Mitsubishi would get 3-4hrs of work per gallon.

Poked around and found a YM1720D. :)

The vid is basic, but the good thing is, you get to see the controls on the main panel.

Mav, thats a 1720 2wd not 4wd The D is missing.

Trying to find a 1720-D with Power steering is like finding an honest politician these days.
Good luck

My mistake. Type-o adding in the D for 4WD.

Yes, finding a YM1720D on the web for pixs isn't easy. Fredricks does off these and they do come with power steering in both 2WD and 4WD.

Here's a guy on a YM1720D in the eastern EU.
