- Yanmar YM240 Yanmar YM186D
All I know about them is what I just read in your post above:California,
What are your thoughts on a YM1720D? Have you seen these in person? Or know of folks with them? For the range of machine IRQVET is looking for, it tends to be a nice machine overall. In an orchard with the FEL and the power steering, it would be an ideal choice. Tree pruning on the FEL lift platform and navicating around each bush/tree would be needed. Then to cover the tree/bushes, the ability to navigate in tight quarters would be agile enough.
This sounds ideal. The power steering is a huge advantage, everything else will be a perfect match to small-scale farming. If you found a YM1720D, it has the 3-cly 3T75 popular engine just like the US models, has 4WD, and OE power steering. ... Should I ever need a smaller versatile Yanmar this would be it hands down. 20Hp engine with 17Hp out the PTO. ...
I like my YM186D for orchard use because I can pass between closely-planted trees where the ROPS on the YM240 has ripped off limbs. But the more powerful YM1720D would be an even better match to my application.
A loader isn't really practical as a work platform in the orchard. When its raised its too hard to climb up onto it, and climb down with a filled harvest bag (like a newsboy bag, or giant purse), it gives only a single height before it's too high to climb up, and I can never get it parked where I need the height. The ladder lets me work at various heights and is easily moved around to the next gap in the branches.
In summary just get the YM1720D if, as I said, the warranty is credible. It's a great model.
