Christmas came early!

I mounted it to a fence post about 20ft away from the shop. I figured the rain and wind readings would be more accurate that way.
You do want it at a high point so buildings, etc. don't 'block' or influence the wind. I would say 20ft is marginal at best. What about on the roof of your shop and about 5ft or more above the ridge?

I have a huge timber that runs along our fence line that shields behind the shop so it would have to be WAY up in the air! I agree higher would be better, but to get above tree line it would have to be on a tower. I’ll just go with it’s pretty close to accurate at this time. I am in the process of putting up a 20ft evergreen tree that I cut down and cut all the limbs off of. Going to put a purple Martin house on top of it, and I may try to do something with the weather station at that time to. Still won’t get it above the trees to the west, but it will be higher up anyway.

Yep. Millions of eggs etc. Apparently their acid shorts and destroys electronics. Cleaned it all out but it never worked again.
Sorry to hear... makes me want to go spray some nasty stuff around the mounting pole next spring.

I think the side clearance is most important. I am not above my trees by a long shot but I wanted to be as far away from them as possible side to side. I also wanted to be above the top of the house at least five feet to not register heat coming off the roof or ground effect from the wind. I am sure you have weighed out your options and if you have lots of trees or live on a hill like me, your options are limited.

All that said, I have enjoyed looking at the history as well as the current conditions. Enjoy!
