Started my yanmar 1610d today and it wants to run wide open. It has set idle for a couple months, ran perfect when last used. The throttle is not stuck, linkage of both hand and foot control works freely. Do I have an injector problem? I've owned the tractor over 5 years and never had a problem with anything other than trying to figure out some of the Japanese symbols.

The throttle may not be stuck but check under the hood to make sure it is actually controlling the linkage there. It sounds like something is slipping on a shaft somewhere.

I would pull the injectors and have them pop tested

Not sure about the 1610, but on a lot of older Yanmars the throttle lever actually connects to the governor. It could be as simple as that rod coming loose.

Mini, why would you have the injectors tested????

OP, check the linkage first without starting the tractor. Look if the linkage moves a lever on the injection pump as you move the throttle handle.

I don't know the specifics of every engine. I just know that run away engines are caused by excessive fuel or fuel vapor entering the engine either thru the air intake or the injectors

I've never seen a leaking injector cause a runaway condition. Symptoms usually include poor performance with black smoke or cylinder wash down resulting in fuel in the crankcase.

It might sound daft, but have you checked the oil level. I had one run away after diesel had leaked into the engine from a faulty diaphragm on the lift pump, Because the ``oil`` level was high, vapour was being pumped into the breather. and away she went.

kenhar, come join us over in the Yanmar forum. If your problem isn't the linkage (most likely) then it almost has to be in the governor. Someone there can advise you how to free it up.

How have you been shutting it off while ?running away? If it's blow-by,a physical condition, it is very hard to stop. If it is the governor or some other fuel supply problem, shutting off the fuel supply will get it done. If you can shut it off normally, then it is probably a stuck accelerator/governor linkage.

If it's not the accelerator/governor it could be excessive blow-by from the crank case. Check the oil level. If it's low it is going some where and that some where is probably the top of the piston.
