Officially retired

Finally but I agreed to go back to work just to help out when they get stuck which is next week!
Applied for a pension from the Government and it was granted, I receive the princely sum of $6.20pa (yes folks six dollars and twenty cents a year) but I do get a pensioner concession card which gives me discounts on electricity, water, rates, vehicle registration and a few other perks.
Started work when I was 14 (school deemed me a no hoper and intellectual midget) and became an electronic tech then off to university where I gained 2 BA's, 1 MA and a Phd in Forensic Psychology which is what I still dabble in.
Turned 70 mid December.
I am now officially a farm labourer, fencing contractor, stock feeder, horse whisperer, dog trainer etc etc.
Self funded retiree hence the massive pension from the Government but I have enough to buy a new car should I need one and generally do what I want, firefighting is not high on my list of priorities and I'll leave that for the young ones.
No debts apart from the missus who overheats my water cooled VISA card on 'bits' we could have never got by without (?)
So bum down and feet up for a few days while I appraise my newfound status.

That's really great, congratulations. Sounds like your career history took some interesting twists.

That can be fun, if you had coworkers who you enjoyed working with. Show up on your own terms and remind them that you're still "The Man".

Coworkers were fine, management were the problem, full of over educated idiots with degrees in questionable subjects expected to be expert in non related areas, one had a degree in women's issues, can anyone explain to me what that is because I'm damned sure I have no idea.
Whyen I was at Uni there were 3 main ones, one was right wing, one left wing and one was middle of the road, I went to the right wing as it carried the most weight when seeking work and had more credibility, the left wing was full of hairy legged, bald headed feminists who spent their time waving placards at non relevant protests or writing protest songs.
Somehow we have one of these on our management team and she is an absolute lost cause.

degree in women's issues,
Oh. THAT type. I guess that they aren't limited to this side of the ocean.

I thought it was only us, they do make you feel unique don't they.

At the very least, we are supposed to treat them like they're something special.

I'm not a sexist in any manner. I try really hard to treat everyone the same regardless of gender.

So,,,, why are you supposed to treat them like they are something special??? Isn't that promoting the very response that you are opposed to??? :)

I have about 6 or 7 years then I'm done working!!!!.

I worked for a woman after she had filed a discrimination complaint against her boss, feeling that she had been passed over for a promotion because of what she called "The good old boy system."

She lost which wasn't surprising, as he was way more qualified than her.
At the same time she wanted "All new people hired by me"... starting with the two guys who just happened to be drinking buddies with her husband and her. They would go out at night and decide who was going to do what, and inevitably I was left holding the short stick when I got to work the next morning.

Too many times in her life she had been treated by men like she was something special.

She IS special.

Too many times in her life she had been treated by men like she was something special.

To her credit she did eventually see how things were, and told me that she regretted filing a complaint; and even admitted that she had gotten where she was because "the boss was sexist." She was just young and green so didn't realise what she didn't know.

Agree. A lot of the stuff you see in the news (think of that family so famous for nothing) is just plain obscene. They should put some clothes on.

I'm not sure, but I think that family you are referring to is the one which I mistakenly believed was from a Star Trek movie.

Congrats. Sounds as though you're set up for it. I was set up for mine at 55 but stayed another year because the discount rate was going to record low then. It did and increased the lump sum I took away. Could have drawn a pension but took the lump sum instead. Had the option back then.

The Company called me back a couple times asking whether I wanted to go to #1 and then #2 for an assignment. Told them "no". Second time, there were a bunch of them on the telephone line. They asked me whether I missed working: "no".

I enjoyed my work and had a good career but have enjoyed retirement just as much or more.

Ralph: happily retired in central Virginia. Love Aus and NZ. Been to Aus about 6 times and NZ twice. Tassy is very nice.
