Rural car wreck

Every state has had such laws since long before cell phones. The driver is expected to be alert, pay attention to traffic and maintain control of their vehicle at all times. Distractions can be eating, sipping coffee, women applying makeup, parent yelling at the kids, pet jumping in your lap and so on. I was opposed to specific cell phone laws simply because driver inattention was already covered.

You left out a few. I once saw a woman balancing a bowl of cereal on the tips of her fingers while driving down the highway... and have also seen people reading newspapers while they're driving. One day while driving down the interstate a woman passed me and gave me a big smile as she went by... there was also a Mich Light bottle in the passenger side cup holder, but nobody in that seat. You can draw your own conclusions which will likely be as accurate as mine.

I will admit that some people are much more talented than I am so prefer to worry about my own driving. I have never been big on talking and driving anyways because cell service is so crappy; my biggest thing was training myself to leave the freakin' radio alone.

Years ago I used to time my travels for work to coincide with teleconferences so I could at least get one thing done.

Did that many times. Teleconferences aren't bad, especially if you use hands-free. But those videoconference calls these days are a different story.

Did more than one teleconference while driving down 65 hwy. Phone on speaker, say a couple of words so they know you are there, and the majority of it you could easily ignore. Dont need to look at it, don't need to listen to it, don't need to pay attention to 99 percent of them. Just stupid corporate policy that you have to dial in and be counted. Stupid Eastern time zone and they insisted on having them at 8:00 am eastern OR even before. We live in Central time, and that is drive time to work. Put your phone on mute and drive down the road. The reason for the early times for the teleconferences is so it would not interfere with work. Stupid stuff. Don't miss it a bit.

According to newspaper the driver was 36 year old Alfonso Rosas. No next of kin or hometown or anything else mentioned. This small town and this farm road seems an odd place for someone to be if not from around here.

I would presume that if a LEO wanted to he could tag U if your car has the now common factory installed GPS/electronic center consol.
Now days you have no choice but to scan/study it B4 even changing a station.
No way can U use a dash GPS without taking your eyes off of the road.
Only HUDS let U do both.

That is odd. We get that around here once in a while but we have Interstate 35 hiway going thru the middle of our County.

No mention of what happened to the baby either I suppose?

What I'm curious is what kind of "rural road" has a 75MPH speed limit? Didn't read through all the posts per this thread, but I've driven a lot of miles for work, and when by myself, I've driven extremely fast (when no one was around me) and the only way I'd go over 100MPH is on a long strecth of interstate highway (at least as far as the eye could see to the horizon) 4 lanes, 2 lanes going each way, separated.

I can only figure health issue with the drive as a child was in the car as well. From the pics, it looks more like a "route" road than an interstate. That alone would tell you no way should you be traveling more than 60MPH IMO.

There is a curve about 300 yards from my house by my neighbors that get's a car to flip over around the corner at least every couple of years due to speed, but there is NO WAY you could even approach 70MPH on that stretch let alone 100MPH. That said, I know per this story it's Texas and it can be flat for a good ways in that area.

Just did another look...

Sorry, no way this road should be 70MPH speed limit (FM 1428 road per the news story). The safe assumption is people will tend to always drive at least 10MPH over the speed limit.

The article said 70mph speed limit, not 75.

Noted. For some reason I had 75MPH stuck in my head and I noted the correct speed in the my second to last sentence;)

Point being when you have two opposing lanes of traffic separating each other by only a double yellow line with perhaps not much of a shoulder, 70MPH is way too fast IMO.
