Welding Projects

Welding Project in the planning - Three deck finish mower (batwing style). Rusted out so bad that I could no longer scab it back together. I'm having (3) new 10 ga decks laser cut and bent. All the important parts are cut off and will be welded or bolted to the new decks. Figuring to have it back together by spring (good luck to me). Pictures of the fit-up and welding to follow once I get into the meat of the job.

My buddy, Mark, has been slowly perfecting a homemade forced air system adapted to a passive woodstove as the primary method for heating his house. This time he added a reusable whole house filter to the system, and since Mark is an ironworker by trade, Mark explains to the rest of us how we've been using cutting wheels wrong our whole lives (which is interesting). Anyway, here is Mark's welding project.

Not on your guys' level but I finally got tired of the height of my "portable" vice.


Local scrap yard had what I needed, about 90% done cleaning up the rim now. Might actually stick some pieces together tomorrow.


They also had these lying there...I searched around for the other parts commonly associated with them and hopefully someone beat me to them and they're not sitting under the pile

I put mine on an old split rim. Only difference is I poured the rim full of concrete, which means it's too heavy for me to move around now that I'm getting old and whimpy. That red vise laying on the ground is what was on there before. It broke so I replaced it with the old post vise. Had to shorten the post a bit.

You guys who have access to scrap yards are lucky. In my area liability issues don’t allow poking around. Or so my buddies who own the place tell me......hmmmm

I've been working on my cattle pens for about 5 years. Each year I make a little more progress before I give vaccinations and deworm. This year was a tailgate for the squeeze chute. Next year's plan is a catwalk and latch for the swing gate.

I noticed watching the second calf come in that you have a small flaw. When it slammed back the gate only caught the angle piece by an inch or so to keep it straight. If one comes in and it misses you're going to hope their chin or knee isn't within three inches of the opposite end of the gate or they are going to take a heck of a wollop to the body. If they are back a little they should be fine.
