I have an L2800 that I bought new in the spring of 2006. It still has the original battery and it still starts. I used it to push snow the other day and it had been sitting for two months but it started right up. Any suggestions on where to get another good battery?

On previous posts your subject came up and the usual spectrum of possibilities were posted. In my case, I just bought the Walmart Everstart Maxx @ $120. ...Group size 51R. That brand has gotten good comparative reviews.

In my opinion, the absolute best bang for the buck is an Walmart Everstart Maxx battery, but you should not really expect it to be normal to get 14 years out of any battery by any manufacturer.

I just bought a Group 27 starting battery from a local dealer that sells his branded/labelled batteries made by EASTPEN (Never heard of them) and he says generally 3-5 years is the life of the average battery. When you get old, that's like the blink of an eye! I kind of ended up buying the battery based on weight!

I don't recommend Interstate will last like this because I've had a few that were no better than any others . I have over 30 battery's to maintain only 7 are less than 10 years old and two in my forklift need replacing some are 12. This battery came out of my dump truck 5 years ago still holds a charge and used at my mill to run a hydraulic toe board.

During the winter when my battery's sit , once a mon. I put them on a battery minder ( tender ?) for 3 or 4 days that's suppose to desulfate them and fully charge them maybe it helps no way of me proving it.

Starting batteries are much improved from years past, and it is not unusual for one to last 10 years or beyond, absent abuse.

Lately, I've been buying Deka batteries but I have had good luck with other brands as well.

That said, it is possible to get a less than good one from anyone.

11 years so far on the BX battery (knock on wood...) I'm convinced that keeping an inexpensive smart battery maintainer - which I have on _everything_ that sits for any length of time - makes a major difference.

I've still never been convinced
I got 11 years from my original tractor battery
13 years from my last truck battery (truck can set unused for weeks at a time)
9 years from my original motorcycle battery (original battery still worked, but seemed to be getting weaker) (typically sets unused from mid Oct -Early April)
Non ever had a battery tender on them

East Penn is one of the major USA battery manufacturers.
They make NAPA batteries, Deka batteries, and a host of other brand names.

Exide makes Everstart (Walmart), Interstate, and others.

Johnson Controls makes Duralast, Optima, and others.
