Charging EV’s over a wide spread area during off peak hours should help stabilize the generation/distribution systems.

Yes. There are places which charge over $0.25/kWh during peak daytime hours to discourage use, then $0.05/kWh at night when power is plentiful. Tesla offers a 13 kWh Powerwall to address that situation. Built-in BCM and inverter. May use to store your excess PV power for use during the night, or many buy to charge at night to lessen daytime costs. Also serves as backup power during outages such as the rolling blackouts practiced in California.

My father used to own a home in Florida. During unusually cold spells of the winter, the power company had a difficult time keeping up with the demand. He received a bill credit by allowing them to connect a remote control device to his furnace. The power company would use rolling black outs on heating to handle peak demand.

If/when EVs become the norm, I could see a similar approach to handle the increased demand.

I own a Model S and sold my TSLA last year for $318. Today TSLA hit $968.99. For Tesla to be "worth" double Ford and GM combined is insane. Tesla can not make enough vehicles anytime in the next 10 years and sell at high enough of a price to pay a 1% dividend on that market valuation.

That makes sense. I never understood how these "worth" calculations are done, but it seemed like funny money to me.

It sounds similar to when there is a sudden market downturn, and the news reports about the incredible amount of money "lost" that day. It's only "lost" in the overall market until the next upturn, which is frequently a matter of days.

Have you seen the price of fuel in the UK?

Where do you live to be paying $0.30 per kilowatt hour?

Ontario electrical costs over 30 cents per KWh during daytime rates . Lowest off peak rates is 18-19 cents per KWh.

I guess they got their eyes open that EV's are going to hurt the value of their black gold in the coming decades.

Anyone reading the news knows EV's are going to be more and more common. The ban on gas and diesel vehicles in the USA is not until 2040 but a change in DC could change it like it did in the UK.

Yes it would be nice to own some Tesla stock but my few marbles are tied up in my business today.
The so called ban is being called for but will not happen , same as the Tier V emissions regulations .
There may be local municipal bans in crazy places such as Berkeley California . Such psycho wards do not count.

The good news is that dirty coal plants are closing, one after another. The handwriting is on the wall. RIP dirty coal .:tombstone:

Who said coal is dirty ? Are you looking at the stock images of smoke stacks circa 1955 that green peace uses ? Or real world 2000痴 plants with lime injection , urea injection , fluidized bed combustion , particulate precipitators and burning low sulphur fuel.

Yeah, I heard that when my Dodge 318 produced 150 HP. "Never going to get any better. Everything has already been invented."

News Flash: Tesla isn't working very hard at increasing battery capacity or density as they have enough already. The research is focusing on reducing cost and increasing durability.
Don稚 k kw where you have been . A couple of decades prior some of the Dodge engines were making over 1HP per cubic inch .

Do you own or drive a vehicle which gets 30 MPG or better? If not then where is your moral basis for criticizing those who are doing better than you?

Tesla Model 3 does 50% better than my power hog Model S.

Furthermore only 27% of electricity on the USA power grid came from coal in 2018. Unlike your diesel or gasoline vehicles an EV effortlessly moves from electricity generated by any means. Gasoline and diesel are very precise formulations which engines barely tolerate dilution with ethanol or biodiesel.

If electricity is dirty for an EV, then why is it acceptable to power your computer, TV, and air conditioning?
False . Any electronic injection engine will handle up to 15% ethanol or biodiesel .
