Finally have funds in place and talking to dealers with used Toolcats. Shopping in 35k range.
Most in that price range have 500-1200 hours and are in the MY 2010-2016 range.
Finding a clean used 5610 is pretty darn difficult, while 5600 comparably pretty easy.

A 5610 is not a MUST, but would be more useful/versatile to me than a 5600. Although the bed is nice for carrying things around the farm, the PTO & 3PT and hyd outlet could be very useful.

Should I be avoiding any particular year Toolcat if newer than 2010. Was there a particular year where the machine became noticeably better?
Any suggestion, please let me know.

I just purchased a used 2013 5610. Didn't have many at all to choose from, and when they became available they went FAST. The one I found had a lot of hours, but they were golf course hours, so hopefully nothing too harsh. I think finding something with 500-1200 hours for 35k is going to be tough, but I hope you find a good deal.

They switched from F series to G series in 2014, or late 2013. From what I have read, the traction control and switching to Doosan motors were the biggest change between those years. Xfaxman has a good write up on the differences between F series and G that's really informative:

Good luck. Let us know what you find!

Frustrating shopping for these. Found a 2016 with fairly low hours, but it was bathed in salt water. Rust is only the most visual problem, but a real turn off. I hate rust. You can only imagine what it does to electrical connections, bearings, grease fittings, etc. where you can’t see it.
The other issue is buying “sight unseen”. Some of these units are 1000 miles away. I’ve bought pieces from long distances in the past, but the Toolcat seems like a machine that’s “run hard and put away wet” by uncaring campus maintenance personnel. I’d prefer a land owners machine, which of course lowers the number of units available.

there are quite a few 5600 on Facebook market place. that is where I got mine. its older,2005 but low hours. been very happy with it. what year did they start with emissions compliance engines? I would look for something before that went down. nothing good comes from choking a diesel engine. just my 2 cents.

Any other ideas as to where to search? I've mainly been looking on Tractor House and CL

Theres a decent number of 5600 models in that price/age/hours range, but no 5610 models.
If anyone knows of a 5610 in that price range please pass along. It is like a needle in a haystack. I have only found 3 new ones and a barely used 2019 and theyre out of my budget. I can only spend 30-35 because I also need 2 mowers and they aint cheap.
If it drags out too long, I may just go with a 5600. Everything I want to run, I want out in front of me anyway.
The thing about the 5610 is it allows the user to run 2 "powered" implements at same time (at least I think so LOL)

Always hold out for what you really want, is my moto. The right thing will just show up at a good price after you buy your second choice.

Yes, VERY frustrating searching for specific equipment on the Internet. Seems search results are always in favour of the bigger players who may not even have what your search requests. That can be a good thing, as I have found out, if you can make it to some obscure listing that didn't get many looks.

I hear you. I'm not a kid anymore. Less time left to buy "mistakes".
A 5600 would be OK and they are about 50 to 1 to the 5610.
Need Brushcat and 90" finish mower, too. So keeping cost down will help. That favors the 5600, too.

I have had the best luck buying stuff at Government auction. Low hours, hardly used, well maintained. Not sure how many Gov agencies would have a toolcat. Parks departments maybe.

Always best to buy something from someone who money doesn't mean much. And Gov certainly fits that bill.

My 5610 was a lease to a school district. The price was pretty good and the trade in prices on my equipment sealed the deal. Actually, the wife was the one that sealed the deal and said DO IT!

I don't like the look of rust either. But you maybe have no idea about the utter mayhem that salt can cause in a complex electrical/electronic system.
