Tractor
5105
I have an 05 John Deere 5105 with a 3 pt that wont lift. As I understood it the hydro pump runs the power steering and 3 pt. The steering works fine.

The full story is.... this tractor sat up for a while because the injector pump went out. While that was be repaired I took the back plate off at the pto and cleaned out the transmission and changed the lower filter which was fouled up. I also changed the spin off filter. Put it all back together and filled it up with trans fluid. Got the injector pump back on and after a bit of struggle got the tractor back running again.

This tractor also has the hookups for a front loader but has never been used or hooked up.

Im looking for anything I can do to trouble shoot the problem before I have to bring it in. The mechanic I had helping me said he was leaning towards the control linkage? Not a not a hydro guy by any stretch so Im at a loss as to where to go next.

Any diagrams of of the system would be helpful as well. Thanks.

Welcome to TBN
It's possible while cleaning screen the hyd pump lost it's prime. With engine running apply ""short bursts of compressed air"" in hyd oil filler hole with remainder of hole blocked off with a shop towel in an attempt to force oil into turning pump gears. If 3 pt doesn't raise then I presume the FEL hookups have breakaway couplers? If so get a 5000# gauge with male ISO tip & plug into breakaway. Move corresponding control lever both directions to determine if any pressure will show on the gauge.

IIRC that tractor has two pumps, one for PS and one for implements/rockshaft. So does PS work? Both pumps have same suction line.

Tx JIM thanks for the suggest. I値l try the air thing this weekend.

zebrafive yes the ps works fine. Can you provide a diagram for it having two pumps? What I can see is one pump on the right side. one like goes towards the front and the other goes towards the implement in the rear.

I think you already found both pumps. they usually are one housing with two sections plumbed individually. so the section with the hoses going to the front may be for the power steering and the section with lines going to the rear would be the three point. usually the lines go to the loader first then the 3pt but I,m not familiar with your particular tractor

Drawing is from JDparts.com. I ASSUME the smaller will be for steering and larger for implements (SCVs, 3pt hitch) Tracing outputs lines should confirm which is which. Outputs are on the top.

This evening I tried the air thing to no avail. I took the plate off where all 4 of the control hydro lines for the front loader go to. It was 2 bolts to remove it. This is on the rear of the tractor under the right side of the seat. Right next to the spin off filter. I bumped the starter a couple time and hyrdo oil shot out.

To me this says the pump is working and Im getting fluid to the rear of the tractor from the pump. Would this be a correct assumption?

Is there a line or port that could be plugged from the old gunked up fluid prior to the clean out? So far I’m not able to find a flow diagram to try and figure out where I should look next.

Thanks for the help this far.

Does your tractor have knob to control the drop of the lift? If so see if it is screwed tight. Of course you have rechecked the oil level. I know of course you have done both of these. Is it possible your stirring around in the transmission stirred up trashed and clogged the cleaned or new filters?

Have you tried sticking in a hose into your SCV and filling a clean pail?

Its crossed my mind to pull the lower sump filter and check it again but I haven稚 done it yet. It痴 8 gallons of oil I have to catch when I do :( But its on my todo list if nothing else works.

Yes level has been checked. I have a sight glass on the rear to monitor it with. Was also just filled about 2 months back with new oil.

As I understand it, there is a rate of lift knob under the seat and I致e run it in and out sever times while moving the raise/lower lever as I went.
