Yeah, I'll have to agree...but much to my chagrin, I made a similar statement about The Wizard of Oz; and found out there was a silent version, and an early talkies version...and the version starring Judy Garland, et al was the third...and best one.
I'd like True Grit if it wasn't for that darn snake scene, gives me the willies and the new version made it worse. John Wayne is another one of my favorite western actors, the movie The man who Shot Liberty Valence is my top pick, I just wish it was in color. I'd be right behind Andy Devine in this story.... Ha! That is one of my favorite movies. Another is "The Quiet Man", John Wayne at his very best non western.

We have something in common for sure..."The Quiet Man" is one of my all time favorites; it's a good story, great cast, but there is something special that I can't put my finger on; I suspect it is the magnificent relationship and interaction among the cast. I can't explain it, but it was superb. Never seen anything like it; The Duke and Maureen's relationship seemed so sincere and natural. It's among my top ten best movies of all time...and that includes "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" and "The Shootist".

Darn it Netlex don have that one, I'll try Amazon. I see Maureen O'Hara is in it, she was also in McLintock with John Wayne, think I remember her saying she really liked working with the Duke.

The Thin Man series of movies were good.
I too find myself scanning forward on TCM and recording the old movies to watch when time allows.
Tend to go more for the old comedies lately. Can only guess theres too much drama in the real world.

I often think about that scene when I'm sitting in a dentist's chair. I'm creeped out just enough that I've never brought it up with the dentist.
