The final scene of The Searchers.... if you ever get to see it in HD, it's pretty impressive.

There is a significance to that scene; it was actually a tribute to one of Wayne's idols, Harry Carey:

From Wikipedia:

As an homage to him, John Wayne held his right elbow with his left hand in the closing shot of The Searchers, imitating a stance Carey himself often used in his films. According to Wayne, both he and Carey's widow Olive (who costarred in the film) wept when the scene was finished.

FWIW, Natalie Wood's sister, Lana, John Wayne's son, Patrick, and Harry Carey Jr. were also in the film.

We have something in common for sure..."The Quiet Man" is one of my all time favorites; it's a good story, great cast, but there is something special that I can't put my finger on; I suspect it is the magnificent relationship and interaction among the cast. I can't explain it, but it was superb. Never seen anything like it; The Duke and Maureen's relationship seemed so sincere and natural. It's among my top ten best movies of all time...and that includes "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" and "The Shootist".

You are correct in your assessment, " a real feel good" movie. I think I know everyone's lines by heart.

The movie I would have to put at the top of my list is Blazing Saddles. For a 1974 film it ignored so many of the things you shouldn't, couldn't put in a movie

Although I wouldn't put it at the top, I admired their honesty and not being swayed by "political correctness". And it was done in a non degrading way. Wish we could be that honest today.

There was that. However, it was a see-it-one-time movie for me; it was funny, but I thought it was very juvenile, slapstick kind of movie, and really...kind of...here it comes...stupid.

Honest today doesn't mean what honest used to mean... Now we just choose which lie suits us.

You really should watch an unedited version again and pay close attention to the dialog...it is classic Mel Brooks making fun of anyone and everyone...'Blazing Saddles' is the quintessential example of tongue in cheek humor...

IMO, Both Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder are/were comedic Geniuses...'Young Frankenstein' is another example of their combined work that is just as exceptional and iconic...

Take a step back and look at the Marx Bros. films...they were not that far off from the Brooks/Wilder genre of films...both had some juvenile cracks and slap stick bits...but the dialog was deeper and much more sophisticated than the action...but every one of them was pure genius...!

For those liking western themes of new day - I would recommend Longmire on Netflix.
I didn’tcare for it, it seemed more like a soap opera than a western. Or too much “Dallas” or “Dynasty”.
