While searching for something else entirely, I stumbled on these:

How far do you think this guy will haul that tractor?

I'm not exactly sure what this guy was trying to haul.

In the late 70's I was driving to work on I-275 in the Detroit area. There was doing about 75 mph in the right lane and there was a truck with a roll off dumpster in the middle lane.

I saw a rod fall off of the dumpster straight down, bounce and head towards me. I thought it was going to come trough the windshield so I laid down on the front seat. As I looked up I saw the rod fly over the truck and I heard a noise.

I got to work and found 1" diameter rod 18" long in the back of my Datsun long bed pickup. I had a plywood on the bed so no damage.

I think the second guy was towing a lake, and ran out of fuel.

Everytime I see a pic like that 3rd one of the dumptruck up on it's end like that, the part I am most curious about is how the driver got down from - what - 30 feet in the air? And all the time hoping you don't upset the balance and tip it down as you are climbing out...

Looks stable enough to crawl down the truck frame. Others might need a man basket, or a ladder fire truck. Or if he reals wants a thrill, he can crawl up the dump box to the sign post and slide down. LOL. Jon

I am amazed at the strength of the sign. The momentum a truck like that has as it goes down the highway, its incredible that the sign can stop it dead in that spot and then leave it hanging there propped up in the air. Based on the scuff marks I think it made initial impact closer to the post, but still, the sign is all that is holding the cab up there in the air.

Maybe he was jerking when he forgot to lower the dump bed

Think of the wind load a big sign like that would take with a 50MPH gust in a storm.
