One approach may be to use some kind of servo mechanism, to activate the other brake.... should be relatively easy (electrically) to set up Selectable Linking, but I don't know of a manufacturer doing it.

I know my BMW works this way, and my wife's Honda, but I think it's standard for linked brake systems. If you use the rear brake, it's only rear brake. Just the front brake handle is linked to both.

I sold my Kawasaki concours 2 years ago, I’m getting a 2020 ninja 1000sx at the end of March. It’s nice to have this site to share the info with because my better half isn’t interested in hearing it.&#55358;&#56619;

I have two friends that have Ninja 1000's. One of them is on his second one after putting 80k miles on the first one. They both love them! I rode one of them for a bit one day, nice bike, so fast compared to my rhinoceros of a bike. Still just too much forward lean for my broke back, I'd have to have ridiculous bar risers on it. Enjoy the new ride!

Thanks racenut! That was my only concern was the forward lean, I really have my heart set on this model though . Do you remember how the wind protection was? This is the only problem with buying motorcycles is you don’t usually get to try them before buying unless you get lucky with a demo ride. That being said I’ve never been disappointed with any of the many Kawasakis I’ve owned and the reviews all seem good!

I did ride it on the freeway for 15 or so miles, I don't recall the wind being an issue. But my bike isn't known for it's slipstream performance. I do know the one I didn't ride has installed a taller screen. But I think the fairing does a decent job of pushing the air around you. Coming from a Concourse, you'll probably be feeling it a bit more. Both of these friends put down the miles pretty good, if the wind was abusive, I think they'd be on different bikes.

Check insurance rates before you do because it will be substantially higher on the Ninja than it was on the Concours. I pay under $300 a year for full coverage on my 2011 Concours.

Not true on all linked brake bikes. My Concours is not that way

There are three main different variations of the standard brake systems on motorcycles.

1) ABS.. prevents skidding in a maximum-brake straight line stop.

2)Integrated brakes... application of the rear brake causes some application of the front brake.

3) Linked brakes.. application of either brake causes some application of the other.

And I'm sure there are probably some variations of these.

Yep, my Concours has Linked ABS as well as traction control that uses the ABS module . You can however turn off the traction control but not the linked brakes. There is 2 settings for the linked brakes however but you can't completely turn it off.

I already checked, insurance is a lot more here in Canada especially Ontario. My quote is $925. It’s about the same for the concours. Both are considered sport touring .
