Actually, it is a new saw made five years ago. Yes, you are being unreasonable. Caveat emptor.

Brand-new saw sitting for years should be just fine.

Hmm. I wonder what year my restored West Germany 034 Super AV was made. :)

Mine is a plain old 034 and bears a metal plate on the air filter cover with the year 1998 but an internet search tells me it was manufactured from 1984-93. I dont know maybe it doesnt apply to Canada.

Mine must be the earlier. I had it a few years before the Berlin wall came down. Goes to show how long these things can last.

Don't buy a new tractor on the lot.

I had the same thing happen to me. I bought ("ordered") a new Echo 501P. They pulled it from the display and put a new bar/chain of my requested length on it. Didn't provide an owner's manual. I got home and the saw had manufactured date from 2 years earlier.

Be glad you found a new 241 with a warranty. Only way I'd be disappointed is if it wasn't the latest version of that model.

A few years ago I bought a "new" Stihl MS361, never used, with the tools, book, and case for $500. I'm not mad it had been sitting for several years.........

So I bought a new MS241. I knew it was a leftover, since it is discontinued.

Thoughts? Am I unreasonable?
you ARE. a discontinued saw can't be newly manufactured. you knew it couldn't be recently made!.

I bought a new old stock Cub Cadet CS5720 a while back. I knew it was not going to have any warranty and I got it for a great deal. It's really an EFCO saw in disguise and they are well known to be a great saw. Mine was been excellent and still working well now 7 years or so later.
