I kind of hope you are kidding here. And who is they? The person working the cash register? You think everyone should fill out a survey if they buy cold medicine? Then what?
I have chronic dry cough from allergies and resulting post nasal drip. I recently came down with a cold and because of my allergies I always seem to have an acute upper respiratory issue along with it. I also came back from Singapore early February. Not at all...but if someone is having the typical "mild" symptoms and is seeking OTC medication...they should be advised to get tested...especially if a young healthy person may only have mild symptoms that they could pass it onto someone that has underlying health issues and it could become much more serious or even fatal...
IMO anyone showing any symptoms and are out in public should be questioned...

I have numerous times in. my life, gone to the doctor after a week or two with this condition. Sometimes they put me on anti-biotics but I don't want to keep destroying my immune system each time unless it gets bad... I believe you have to pick your battles. Two plus weeks now and just getting over the cold. Never a fever and I had a runny nose. I understand the coronavirus is a dry cough, not a lot mucus and runny noses (I hope). Since I work out of the house normally unless I am traveling, I sort of self quarantined myself. I also didn't go around any old folks homes!
With the 'common' flu affecting and consequently wiping out far more people than the coronavirus and other sensationalized viruses, I am not sure how 'questioning' people regarding this particular strain is going to be more effective than other possible actions to fight common flus. What we need is a vaccination to be created just like we always do and as quick and safely as possible.
Me thinks that most everyone is quite aware of the coronavirus due to the local and national news sensationalizing it. As such, I am not sure some clerk at a grocery store asking someone at the cash register if they think they may have the virus or who they have been in contact with... is going to yield much of anything positive IMHO. If you can devise a systematic approach that makes sense, I am all ears! What specific questions do you propose?
Unless you are suggesting that everyone gets tested that buys some cold medication, and we know that ain't going to happen soon with the resources at hand, I still fail to see how it will work?
