If your diesel is a tier 4 machine, I would not use the heating fuel. The new fuel is okay but the tank is not. A little bit of contamination goes a long way with common rail, electronic injectors, DPF and sensors.
Pre tier machines were tough and could digest near anything that burned.
I would call the oil dealer and ask if its Ultra-Low Sulfur Heating Oil , Here in NH they just started using uls fuel last year for heating
Ultra low sulfur diesel ULSD (<15ppm) has been required in NY since 2012.
I can't tell what you're suggesting knowing this.
I believe ULSD has less (fuel pump) lubricity than it's predecessors and refiners may add additives to meet minimum requirements.
Is it common that some ULSD "heating fuel oil" doesn't meet lubricity requirements because it's not engine "diesel" fuel? Possibly... but more likely it comes from the same tank at the distributors.
If in doubt, and concerned over effects of 100 gallons, add the grey bottle additives. :2cents:

Interesting. I also live in NH and most suppliers have been using it for heating for years now. Perhaps the "mandate" just recently occurred. For my supplier, its been ULSD for at least 10 years.
I see you are from Washington County...years ago, I lived in Whitehall...but its a pretty large county.
You are correct about the lower lubricity of ULSD, but all the newer engines are designed to run on it.
The fuel will be fine, it you are concerned run it thru a filter, the higher quality the better.
A filter is always a good idea.

I use eastern propane and oil, I called them the winter of 2018/2019 and they asked what state I lived in and said uls heating oil would start July of 2019 It was signed into law 2018 The state of New Hampshire has passed a bill that will transition all heating oil sold in the state to ULS. During 2018, oil dealers will gradually transition from traditional heating oil to ULS heating oil
