that's probably per structure, you should be able to have multiple structures at the 120 sq feet limit!.. but how about getting the permit?.

What did you use to take apart the pallets without breaking the boards?

I didn稚 take them apart. I used pallets that were all a consistent size and nailed them directly to the posts.

The 120 sq foot limit is all about avoiding a building permit. For my acreage I can have up to 5 detached structures totaling up to 5,160 square feet. If I did pursue a building permit I'm not sure how much it would be. It's a $55 fee and then the permit is based on the value of the building. I've had run ins with our city inspector so i'd prefer to avoid him altogether.

We live on the border between suburbia and rural MN. Our city doesn't have any downtown or any dense housing. All lots have a 3 acre minimum, but most people have 5 acres or more. We have 14 acres. Even though it seems pretty rural, we do have a multitude of codes as if it were a dense area.

Thanks. Just never heard if that. Here, you would be zoned agricultural with livestock.

Timmer,

First, I assume you are buying 2 feeder steers - I year old in the spring, weighing 4-500 lbs? You have about 4 acres of grass for feeding and ample water via well/stream/spring on the property? Do you have trees for shade too?

Providing you have a water source, good grass growth, 4 acres can support two steers with the goal to gain 1.5 to 2 Lbs/day (400 lbs for the season) without a lot of extra corn or feed supplement. The shelter is shade, and coverage from the elements and if you have trees, water and grass, they will spend most of their time outside and not in the shelter.

With 120SF you don't have space to store feed, or hay bales unless you build a loft into the space - a higher lean to and a 4-5' loft area to store hay and grain. If you intend to grain feed them do this daily in a trough / area and store the feed elsewhere.
