My Max28XL won't start unitil the key is turned four or five times

2014 Max28XL. 550 hours. When I try to start tractor, I wait until the orange light goes off, and turn the key to start. Nothing happens... If I turn the key off and on four or five times, it will start. There was a replacement of a gadget on the right side of the engine after the first year. It's out of warranty now, but has anyone experienced this? I tried using the search feature but I'm probably too senior to figure it out. It's not a show stopper but if there is a cheap fix, I'd like to try it. TIA!!!!

Does it just click, but not turn the starter over ? If so, it might be the starter solenoid is on its way out.
Have you checked both ends of your positive and negative battery connections to make sure they are clean and tight ?
Is your battery voltage up to snuff ?

When I turn the key, I hear a click, but the starter does not engage. Turn the key off/on a few times and the stater engages. The battery and both +/-cable ends both replaced about a year ago. Battery voltage is fine. Seems to start the first time when the tractor has not been started for a few days..

My best guess would be the starter solenoid is on its way out. Is that part of your alternator, or a stand alone unit ?
Next time it doesn,t start, but just clicks, set the parking brake, put your key in the run position, and carefully short out the solenoid.

First check battery connections, check the connector off of the positive cable. If those are all good you have a bad or miss adjust safety switch more than likely. There are 4 or 5 depending if you have mid pto or not.
1) on the clutch
2) on the rear pto ( you can try pushing back on the pto lever and see if it starts) if yes adjust the switch
3) mid pto switch if equipped
4) HST pedal switch
5) seat switch
