I have a couple Polaris 340s. An 89 Sport and a 91 Lite. When we lived in Ottawa they saw a lot of trail use. Towards the end we kinda lost our nerve on snowmobiling as a family outing. Speeding machines were common and you only need to meet a few drinkers to notice how many sleds sit outside the bars for hours. The last straw was an incident at 10Am on a week day.
Now we use the sleds on the lake for cruises and ice fishing transport. Last year I bought an Argo 6x6 for ice fishing, but I still plan on keeping the sleds for now.

Just sold our 2005 Yamaha Venture RS - 2 person sled. Want to buy something newer to take longer trips.

Stick with four stroke or are new 2 strokes worth looking at for a big sled?

Also curious about some of the "Utility" sleds and their ability to travel without trails.

In December 2018 I bought my first snowmobile, wanting to go off-trail on my property (we get 240" of snow annually), carry a passenger, and tow a sled with kids, all while not smelling like 2-stroke oil. Ended up buying a Ski-Doo Expedition Sport 900 ACE, and it does all those thing very well. 90hp is more than adequate, I get an average of 18mpg on trail rides, and minimal noise and smell. I can and do ride it in very deep powder, solo, with no issues, and can ride with a passenger off-trail in most conditions (not the softest, deepest fresh powder). To me this is a do-almost-everything sled. The 900 ACE is the most expensive option, you can also get it with the 60hp 600 ACE or the new 2-stroke, 2-cylinder 600 EFI, rated at 85hp. I've only test driven two strokes, never owned one, but really prefer the operating characteristics of the 4-stroke.

Love my tractors, but really LOVE my sleds! IMG_5954.jpg12990851_1051599114879212_8413574094488529295_n.jpg12914783_1755411404738077_358948893_o.jpg

A 2013 Ski Do SummitX here. Hopefully moving to a 2018 SummitSP soon. Learned to sled too late at 62, now 72 to become really proficient at it. I thought that being a competent dirt biker that it would be easy. Sledding(mountain riding) is much more difficult than it looks.

My 2017 Polaris 600 Switchback Special and my 2020 Polaris Indy 850 Indy XC137 are very nice stable mates for my John Deere tractors. My move to northern Wisconsin this fall (along with my retirement) should let me have more time to ride. I also will have closer access to the U.P. of Michigan should the Wisconsin snow come up short.
