Can a JD backhoe (260) be added to a 1025r that did not have one from the factory?

Save your money and rent a small trackhoe when you need some digging done. Or hire someone to come and do it for you. I bet if you put the pencil too it you would save money by not owning it. That machine is very small and limited on power. If money is not a issue then buy it and have fun playing. Just don’t expect to do a lot of heavy work because you will be disappointed.

Depends on what you consider “ heavy work “. I installed a complete septic system using the BH on my little SCUT. I was able to do it on time off from work, evenings for an hour or two, etc... I basically paid for the cost of the BH (I saved over $5000) doing it myself. I looked into renting a track hoe / mini excavator for a month... would have cost almost $4000.... not worth it.

I have found a LOT more projects that I have done with it... I can just jump on it and go do it....

I don t disagree that you can do a lot with them. In your case if you was able to rent the excavator and actually get the job done in a day the rent would not be $4000. More like $400. If you had to pay someone to do the septic system then I agree you saved some money. But in your case you have other projects to do and the convenience factor makes since. I am not trying to step on anyone痴 toes. I just see people buying a small machine thinking they can do the work of a larger machine to only be disappointed or use the equipment for one project and not use it again. I am all about owning toys with no justification for having them. Just be realistic of machine capabilities.

Absolutely understand... yes, one must be realistic about what they can do. They will definitely be slower, will not dig as deep, will require far more patience and time. I could have spent a half day getting a rental delivered, dug that afternoon and the next day, then have it picked up. Then after first inspection, repeat the process all over again.... (if it would be available for the exact time I wanted it.) fill all the trenches with stone for a day, and send it back again...

Then after the pipes installed and ready to cover it all up, repeat the delivery and such again.... so a total of 6 delivery and pickups at $150 = $900, plus the daily rental fees of $450 x 3 = $1350. Total $2250. That would have been still saving some bucks, but the logistics of trying to schedule life, work, the rental, doing the septic work, etc, would have been a nightmare! Just the cost of the rental paid for all my supplies and the fuel to do it.

My labor and time made up the overall cost savings.... but now I have a tangible piece of equipment to show for it, that will probably outlast me, and I could probably sell it for 50-75% of the cost I paid for it.

Unfortunately this discussion will get argued over and over again. And that is ok. It will help someone make an informed decision about a costly piece of equipment. It really has to be based upon an individual’s needs and circumstances. I would never have a need to rent an excavator or full sized BH.... the next guy might.... We do not have any rental yards close by that even have them (closest is an hour away), the next guy might have one up the street.

I do not have one, but it is a option.

I am concerned about how little the 1025r lifts up the belly mower.

I can't recall for sure, but it seems when I was shopping, I was told you could not have them both on at the same time; that one had to come off to mount the other. Some brands are like that. I can have both on and use them without taking the other off. That was one of the primary reasons I went blue .... that and the huge price difference.

You can leave the mower on if you want. The only down side is ground clearance.
