I thought my trails were going to break up 2 weeks ago but colder weather came back and the going is still good. Kind of icy after the rain but solid. I cut the biggest fir of the winter today. Here is a picture so you guys with big trees can get a good chuckle. After the rot was trimmed, about 4', I had 55' of saw log left. Enough for two 12's and two 14's. Average is less than half that. Rain tonite and then 60 degrees and more rain Friday so this might really be the end of the winter season here. Stay healthy everyone. Glad I got plenty of bark around the wood splitter because there is no TP in the store.

To heck with the bark around the wood splitter, you have all kinds of TP growing on that white birch. Looks like you had to haul the tree backward, must got away from ya or your tractors to big.

Oh thanks for the tip. I didn't know you weren't supposed to fell a tree so you could skid it out top first if it was the easiest way with it all lined up for a straight pull out of the woods and down the trail. Felled with the top lying right at the trail edge too. I won't do it again.

Your felling was fine, but you then are supposed to hook up an elaborate set of snatch blocks so that you can eventually get it turned around and pull it in a more socially acceptable manner.

Or just pull by the top as you did, but don't post pics where OldPath can see them. ;)

HAHAHAHAHH I was going to ask GG why he didn't use his snatch block, I was gonna suggest that if he shimmed up one of those trees he could of hooked it on top of one of the other trees and turn that fir around, but he dont live in SC.............
