I thought I'd post about my 1st 50hr maintenance. I purchased my trans fluid from Amazon it was Triax Agra UTTO XL SYNBLEND Premium Tractor Hydraulic & Transmission Oil 23.19 a gal and a wix filter 23.58. If I had it to do again I'll go with a different filter. It took about 3 gals to refill the trans and when I did my test drive I was surprised at nearly no whine and it is much easier to shift from low to high speed. I changed to oil earlier and all I need to do still is clean the screen behind the tire. I still have a problem getting it to lock the rear differential but it will go in if I screw around with it enough. I thinking it is gonna have to go back for some warranty work.

20200320_105416.jpg This was my jury rig filler tube. I purchased a pump but it was real slow. So I broke down and poured it in.
20200320_110958.jpg I would fill the window and then it would drain down tried 4 or 5 times then it finally stayed up at the top of the window.

Did you drain and fill the front axle also?

I did not. I may do that next. Most who have commented on this said there front axle was fairly clean.

For warranty purposes it wouldn't hurt to change it. If u are like myself. My 4 wheel drive is engaged most of the time. Both my fluids were clean when i did the 50hr service so i think its moot point and it seems better to me to just do it. Its kind of like changing engine oil once a year. Its not b/c of the hours on it. Its just good practice. Changing the front axle is probably the easiest to do as well

The fluid in the front diff, isn't going to get "dirty" under normal circumstances.

It will get contaminated by metal particles, and the additives will break down.

The gears in a front axle will create some metal. If you take the drain pan out in the sun, and move it around, you will see it.

Unlike the transmission, there isn't a sump for that metal to settle into. So, it does get circulated through the gears.

You want to change the fluid in the front axle periodically, to remove those debris. And, also to replenish the additives protecting differental, which are tortured due to the very high pressures created by the hypoid gears.

It's not a crisis if it isn't done on time. But, it should be done at some sort of regular interval.

It can also provide an early warning, if you do have a defective part, (which will create a lot of metal). That could potentially allow for you to have a repair done at your convenience, rather than at the worst possible time, after it fails.

Don't trust the quality of the original fill fluids. They are only formulated to last for 50hrs.

All the fluids used at the factory need to meet or exceed the same fluid specifications as the Massey Ferguson branded fluids that the dealers sell. Decades ago some engine manufacturers used a break in fluid that had to be changed at 50 hrs but those fluids were to help the moving engine components seat themselves better. However machining tolerances have gotten much better since then and there is no need for a break in fluid.

If you change the front axle oil let it drain out overnight to get it all out ..

Good to hear about the whine subsiding with hydro change, I'm hoping mine will do that when I change with synthetic and clean the suction screen. But yeh, about the screen, you didn't do it when changing the hydro fluid?

I did not but I'm gonna do it soon.
