We tend to get little blips now, sometimes you barely know they’ve happened. Over 10 years ago we had a big gathering here over new year. As new year’s eve went on it started feeling cold in the house (it was -14C outside) and we realised the electric water heater wasn’t working. Called the board at 9.30, engineer arrived at 10.30, walking the last 300m through thigh deep snow. Main fuse on one of the phases had gone. Sorted and gone in 10 minutes. Great service! But the underfloor heating took about 10 hours to get properly warm again...

I've only been using hydronic floor heat for a year. I love it. Took awhile to become familiar with the process. No quick changes. Mine seems to work best when it's below freezing outdoor temps. Temps in the 50F area easily overheats the house. Especially on a sunny day. I use Propane tankless heaters.
Worst time for us is in Spring and Autumn when it’s below freezing overnight but might be really sunny in the day. Can get a but warm then. But I’ve been tweaking the settings for over 3 years now and I think the trick is to set it lower than my wife thinks is the right temp!

Yes. We have our house set on 70F. We only have throw rugs on the concrete floor. Sure is nice to walk thru the house in stocking feet and they be warm.
My shop is set on 69F. And that's too warm if turning wrenches on a tractor or something.
Well last week almost allthe snow round the house was gone. 16C on one day!! But started snowing on Saturday and finished monday. About 10” I suppose. But although it was -12 overnight the snow is quite damp and the sun really strong ths time of year. Should be 8+ tomorrow and 12 on Saturday. That’s why I left the chains on last week, in case it got deep and we had get out this week. Although we’re pretty much locked down; kids off school, only food shops etc open.
Yes the logging has been going on for some years now, alrhough at side if the river is supposed to be a National Park. Their forestry thinking is rather old fashioned to me. But the natural cover should be mixed beech woodland not the spruce planted post war.
We’ve red deer, bears, wolves and lynx (last two almost never seen).
I should say we’re at 900m with the mountsins to south about 2500

Were your forests depleted during WWII?
I've been to South Korea a dozen times. They had no forests after WWII. Japan took it all.
We don't have Wolves or Lynx but we have Coyotes and Bobcats. Similar, just smaller. You see Coyotes once in awhile. Hardly ever see Bobcats, just lots of footprints.
