For the most part it will, BUT it has to be applied/used in the right way, for the best chance of it working, and that's not just pouring it on...

It looks like Rockler's green wood sealer may be like the famous AnchorSeal, which runs about $30/gal.

I have not tried wax, and I have suggested it to some of my woodworker customers. Melt it and spread it where you want it. I ask them to report back on how well it works. No first-hand accounts yet. Anyone try wax personally?

I have tried latex-based elastomeric coatings without success.

I have heated up paraffin and turpentine half and half and brushed it on to keep wood from checking. Store the wood in a cool dark place for a year or two, good luck !

Paint sucks!

Anchorseal is expensive, but it's the best and easiest to use...

A guy told me that also, he did chainsaw carving and soaked his bears in car ant ifreeze.

It is an interesting approach to the shrinkage problem. Instead of sealing the ends of the wood fibers with AnchorSeal or equivalent to slow drying, replace the water in the wood with antifreeze, which does not evaporate readily. Does the wood take on a greenish hue? Maybe not a big deal for darker species.

Maybe I will try that on the next cookie....

But how does it effect the way it takes a finish afterward?

I don't think that I would soak a piece of wood in antifreeze if I was going to make a table out of it. I have heard of people using it to rehydrate loose ax handles though.
