Hey, I got some good news: it is April, and I don't have a house payment. Yep, paid it off in March. So see, there is SOME good news.. :) .... at least for me...

Congratulations!

^^^^
That's good news for you even without all of the bad going around right now.

Thanks Moss.

It's a good feeling. My wife and my first house cost a whopping $20K. We had to borrow (gasp!) $18K. This was 1985. We paid 3 points to get the rate down to 12.5%!!! We were so worried because the monthly payments were going to be $256. That included escrow for taxes and insurance.

My fiancé is on edge and bored. She commented recently "I did not expect this when I decided to retire" . She expected to be able to travel and have fun. She got upset when I told her a significant part of my retirement has been lost and it will impact how we live going forward. DUHHHH!!

I have no debt and unless my SS payments wind up being next to worthless (with the coming inflation/devaluation), we will not starve...but it is not the life either of us had hoped for. Of course, the first priority is surviving the virus. Being hunkered down in the middle of nowhere is not fun but safe IF we do it. Yesterday I did a stupid thing and acquiesced to going to the Dollar store to pick up crap we did not need. We had been contact free for over two weeks until yesterday....so now the clock starts again. Just a dumb thing to do. I will NOT do it again.

In fairness, for weeks I was house bound with a broken ankle. I encouraged her to go out without me but my being laid up impacted our already limited social life.

The next month will be telling. The ever increasing death toll should help convince her why we need to be smart.

I think this is going to put a strain on many couples...

Needless to say our was a bit more than that. Well a lot more. But we came here in 2002. Had to move here for the new job in Harrison Ar. at the time and so the wife could still travel to her job at the time in Springfield, Mo. Through the diligence of the wife, we managed to pay off the 30 year loan in 18. Glad to see it gone.

YEP. My wife and I have barked at each other a bit in the last couple weeks. So, we try and take at least a 1/2 hour walk after dinner every night. We do a jigsaw puzzle every week. We go places on weekends and walk 5-6 miles. We talk to our kids and other family members fairly often. I taught our cats some tricks. One sits, shakes hands, and gives me "high 10" ( he can't get the knack of just giving "high 5"). The other sits and give great "high 5s". Both will sit up. Yep. Getting pretty bored when you start training the cats.

Hang is there. Positive mental outlook. Consider this a test to see if you can live the rest of your life with her. That sounds brash... don't take it like that. Sometimes the worst of times brings out the best in people.

Good luck to you. And all.
