Seat safety Switch? What is the point?

Should I be wearing a hard hat for falling meteorites?

No, because the hard hat WILL NOT save you from a falling meteorite, so no use wearing it. The velocity is too great. It is gonna smash yer punkin head. And that's that...

Some of the safety switches make sense, to me when they "stack" 2-3 switches it becomes troublesome. (seat, neutral & PTO) A simple "operator presence" switch saved our Front cut mower (F series Kubota) from sucking water when the Mrs. drove it into the pond and bailed off. Of course it was the steep bank deep end, spent a good 45minutes at about 10' down.

I have seen some recovered meteorite's that have smashed thru peoples roof's and thru automobiles. If you get hit by a space rock, I am afraid it might just be all over. Of course your chances of being under a falling space rock is a whole lot less than getting hit by lightning and winning the publishers clearing house prize. :)

Product Liability...

John Deere had a class action lawsuit quite a few years ago because in their bulldozers with reversers, some machines never had a neutral for the main transmission. If you left the seat, and swiped the reverser which was VERY easy to do, you could easily get run over.

I had my old JD350 running one day with tool box on the track, me working on the engine. I managed to hit the reverser, dozer jumped, my tool box ( I was on the other side) rode the track, hit the ground and the dozer crushed it flat.

I rolled my original 1985 Yanmar 220D (and it a legal, US model) while bushhogging one day and the engine never quit until I crawled back over and stopped it. No seat switch.....or roll bar.....

The seat switch is nice on the lawn mower since my wife and kids use it. Peace of mind if they get up with the deck on or flip it.

I saw a guy flip a zero turn Toro grand stand years back. It landed on the bars and kept the deck running upside down. Had to crawl in the ditch to turn the key to stop it before it ran without oil. It was scary.

My tractor doesn't have any safety switches. I always shake the shifter to make sure it's in neutral before starting it

Have a seat safety switch on an M series Kubota, doesn't do anything other than sound an alarm if you get off the seat with the PTO engaged.

Most ag size tractors don't have the nanny switches lawn tractors do, I've never bypassed safety switches on lawn tractors even though they can get annoying.
