Not quite "tractors" and wood, but when someone gives me free white oak & hickory, I don't say no. Short bed pickup holds a little over an IBC Tote full if it's tops and branches, but just about full with the trunk rounds split. Of course that will depend on who is stacking also. This tree was just cut down this week so this was super heavy. I don't think the swinger loader will pick them up and still keeps the rears on the ground. I may have to put the forks on the 3pt of the JD to move these. I have at least 2 more truck loads to bring home but that'll have to wait until next weekend. I had the Mrs. as my helper, so we took about 45 mins to split each load, usually I'm alone which takes much longer.
1st load this morning.

That is a nice load of wood ! I see that truck body lifted up a little when you got it emptied.

Box Elder, up to speed now but did you cut a male or female tree, or a Jim or Jane tree............... "Some boxelder maple trees are male and some are female."
Danged if I know, it did have more indentations than anything sticking out though! HA HA HA

Anyway, here's the better pict. I promised, but it's still not great,

The foot.. Kinda back in business... got the stitches out, but the insides of that second toe were messed up pretty good. Still swollen, broken, and its longer than it was!! about 4-6 hours in a shoe and I've had enough and have to quit for the day or at least do something else.. going to take a while to heal completely me thinks.

Good to hear, if no medication then your making good headway or footway:thumbsup:

Looks like it makes good boards, but if it warps twist and or dances around when sawing then it's probably female but if it just lays there then I'd say it's male. What about nailing and and weight, is it like aspen? What hp motor did you put on your BSM?

Seem so softwood thats been laying on ground for a while and not rotted would be cedar-ish and might be good for shingles, if one needed shingles, ah wooden shingles that is.
Turned out to Doug Fir, in the same MBTU range as many hardwoods. Worth an hour or so for about a 1/3 cord.

Well, I picked up the two cherry logs from a pile today, see how you can choose one log, hold it and then pick through a pile to get the "next log you want", out of the pile,

standard.jpg

That's another thing that pallet forks/grapple will do, that a dedicated grapple doesn't. Anyway, I managed to load the front log on the BSM, mill it and then get started on the second log,

Second log turned out some decent grade lumber, and I DID "grade saw" them,

The neighbor came over in his wheel barrow truck, and left with a decent tally of cherry lumber, 105.6 bd. ft. in all...

and he was happy to get it done...
