Put this bay window in 20+years ago when I enclosed the old front porch. Just used the same shingles that I used on the main roof. When I replaced the roof shingles with green metal, I left the bay window unaltered.

Recently I began to get the itch to change, but I wanted some kind of accent feature. Decided on copper. Not real copper of course, but copper colored metal roofing. Found I could get it in flat stock instead of the ribs which would be better for the low overhead of the soffit.

Finally got all the materials (less than $100 total) on site and the weather to do it. Took a day off other projects to have at it. Work only took 4 or 5 hours once I figured out what I wanted to do and gathered tools and materials. Still needs some detail and finishing up, but I haven't spent a full day on it either.

My wife and I are building a log home here in TN, and we, too, decided to use copper metal around the bay window. I hired the same guy who put the metal on the roof, though, as my metal working skills aren't up to the task.

Be curious to know how much money you save with the copper-look material compared to real copper. Anytime I work with copper, the cost makes me pucker, even now that the price has come down.

Aluminum gutters now come in copper-look finishes. Seen both "new" copper and "weathered" copper (more of a brown/bronze). Great idea, as from a few feet away you can't tell it's not copper.

I didn't even check the price of real copper, but I've seen how much the price has climbed for copper pipe and fittings. Copper looks great, but we really didn't want the patina that comes with age. The copper-colored steel roofing material shouldn't fade, or so they tell me.

One other benefits of real copper is that it can be sweated to prevent leaks with no need for sealants etc...

FWIW...Galvanized flashing can also be sweated but many flux compounds will interact with the zinc and the metal will rust down the road...

They both look very nice, enjoy.

Didn't even price real copper ... didn't need the shock factor. 'Copper' color metal roofing ran about 75 cents per linear foot more than the normal colors.

I have some 'real copper' flashing I put up as accent trim. It looks like crap after 10 years. I might try to polish it and spray it with clear coat.

I see a commercial building that I believe has the same stuff I used, not sure. It's been on for a number of years and still looks OK. I don't know why it would age any different than any of the standard colors, but I guess we'll see.

On our lake a guy built a new home well out on the water (1/2 in, actually) and used real copper to roof it.
For the first couple of years it would blind you as the sun reflected off of it.
Not bad now that the patina has aged it.
While a nice modern building it is really out of place in a waterfront wilderness setting.
