If your MF TC45d has 4-WD it should pull an 8' width disc with 18" diameter pans fine.

The eight foot width with 20" diameter pans may be too much. Your TC25d may run out of traction/power with gang angles set aggessively or on second pass when soil is soft. Border line case.

The eight foot width with 22" diameter pans -- too much.

Bear in mind that I do not know your exact conditions.

In terms of your tractor, tractor weight is the primary factor in capability. The 4-WD vs 2-WD, then tractor horsepower.

In terms of the disc, the draft force (implement resistance) is proportional to pan diameter, disc width, pan spacing (7" or 9") and gang angle adjustment.

Then there is your soil and soil moisture.......

My machine is a tc45d, not a tc25d. Only pointing that out as it seems relevant as a big difference in horsepower, to the extent that that matters. My soil is somewhat light. My intent is to scratch up the surface enough to broadcast clover on a 1 acre foot plot.

I pull my 6' model 22.

What diameter are the pans and what is your pan spacing?

18" is about 37 pounds bearing on each pan. 20" pans 52 pound bearing on each pan.

7" pan spacing has more float than deeper penetration 9" pan spacing.

Big differences in draft force resistance.

I’m kicking myself for not taking a pic of it when I was there, I believe it’s 9” spacing and 18” pans at the most. Thanks a lot for your help. As far as weight goes, does leaving the loader and grapple on the front increase weight in a useful way relative to pulling a disc through soil?

This information would have been more helpful in Post #1.

FEL certainly increases tractor total weight, but FEL acts as counterbalance to your loaded rear tires, so combination when pulling a disc harrow may be neutral or somewhat helpful.

I remove my bucket for forward visibility when harrowing for an hour or two. I remove the entire FEL for forward visibility if I anticipate harrowing six hours or more.

If it’s that big of a problem to you , then you should move on to another thread.

And what? Would you have jumped in with a very helpful to the OP seventeen (17) words?

I have hundreds of hours using a 25 behind a Massey 135 gas tractor, you’ll have no problems pulling it. Not seeing the condition it’s hard to say on the price, but if your happy with it and works for you , it will be a good set up.

Least all my info comes from tens of thousands of hours of actual use and not from books and literature quoted over and over.
