After today's rain you shouldn't have any problem finding pools.

I never looked at splitting up wood as being a "race". If you don't get that satisfaction from all that effort - buy oil or whatever to stay warm. :confused3:
I go through around 6 cord a year, am always at least one year ahead, and as Gordon said it's really not all that big of a job. Now if you're trying to sell wood, that's another matter completely.

As I age, making the process easier is my goal and speed becomes a futile effort.
The past few years those racks you see in the pictures have cut my handling down to a minimum. Once off the splitter and directly on to a rack it's done for a year or so until I move the whole rack (around 90-95 c/f) to the house for the last 2 "handlings". The rack is 3 steps from the wood boiler (inside) to a small bin that holds a day or two's worth, the last time we touch it is into the fire. We're going on 11 years now with this Boiler and it seems like a silly thing, but the first shower (of wood heating season) with hot water made by MY wood some how feels better and guilt less use of hot/hot setting on the clothes washer along with hot water washing of vehicles is another plus, not to mention a 100* boiler room that dries the clothes.:D
10-4 on futile effort on firewood speed, but since I'm the only one here thats in the dark about them front tires, I'll ask, what's with them front tires in first picture? I dont recognize them.

Awesome road build, let me know when you get close to me so you can continue on my end of this major road construction, bring extra fill with you, lots of extra fill. I'll hold the road under construction sign til I get tired.

Yes I got home tonight and most of that snow has liquefied. I'm surprised I didn't loose power from all the wind gust tonight, guess that heavy snow took care of all the weak spots til next time.

Oh boy more acronym word games, hunt should be great at this one, and off course there will be updated pictures of said chainsaw mill........ Seems a shame to put lumber into firewood.

AFAIK As Far AS I Know

And I would like to see about the third cut on that log with a chainsaw mill.

Thats got to be one he77 of a lot more saw then I have & an all day job.

No one burns redwood, AFAIK. I will slab it out with a chainsaw mill. I sell it to woodworkers, or make things on commission. I also know a fence/deck contractor who mills it here and uses it for jobs.

Coulda used Rob's dozer to move it. Huge new load-loader truck has been here, loading up the firs to be dumped. I give douglas fir away, but even then, it's a hard sell.

ya people around here say no one burns black walnut, but its heated my house for several years.

If I win the lottery, I sure as heck will not need or want a splitter!!!

BTW, posted this before. If you have someone in your area that rents a wood processor, you can produce about 10 cords in one day for $300 or 20 cords in 2 days for $450. No wear and tear on your saw and no splitter needed. No heavy lifting of rounds either.

For me, a good quality splitter is like a good backhoe. For the number of times I need it, it is not worth owning. I use about 6 cords a year so not much. At 69 and now nursing a broken ankle, making the job as easy as possible has value. I have 32 loggers cords of wood to process this year but with the **** Covid cannot get the processor here. Hopefully our governor realizes we do not need the same protocols in the sticks that we need in Detroit, and gets some of us working again by the end of the month.

That would be the way to go if I had all my trees down at once. I actually enjoy the workout and being outside. I'm sure that the day will come when I say enough is enough. We have a bit of land here and there are always trees that need to be removed due to tree damage. It never ends in the 48 years that I have been trimming this land.
