Welp, I got all ready to hook up my RSB1301 tiller and till the new garden and realized there's no way I could shorten my spare cat4 shaft enough. It would leave about an inch of shaft between the yokes! So I'm putting out a call for anyone who knows where an OEM one might be available for purchase (I've exhausted the usual suspects of Fredericks, Hoye, and Ernie). It's a 6-spine both ends, about 17" pin-to-pin. Thanks all.

I have no ideal where to find the PTO shaft you require! But consider putting in some type of quick hitch. I have the titan’s that are similar to Pat’s and love them. Pats has a few nice features that I wish my had, but the greatest benefit for me is to be able to adjust my lower arm width for various non quick hitch compatible implements.
One of the things that is a by product of all quick hitch systems is that it adds distance between the tractor and the implement. Mine is about 4” distance. Others may let you know if theirs adds more or less distance.

You say "an inch between the yokes" and then you say "about 17" pin-to-pin". When you shorten a pto shaft, are you only cutting the outer or inner tube? You should cut both so you keep as much overlap as you can.

The chain case on my tiller disintegrated when the chain broke. The stubby little drive shaft is intact. Your initial post said something about Cat 4. My tiller was a Cat 1 but I think the PTO shaft is pretty universal. If you're interested I'll see if I can get it off the tiller and take some measurements.

Landpride has a shaft option for their RTR12xx series that is great for Kubota BX tractors. 1-3/8 6 spline on the tiller end and available with a slip clutch or shear bolt.

I cut both equally. Here's what I mean by the measurement - from the tractor PTO lock pin to the lock pin of the tiller is about 17". The yokes take up 16" of that :)

Sorry, I misspoke about the size, it's a series 4 shaft, not cat4. This is the part I'm looking for, it's a specialty solid shaft which is able to be very short.

That's a good point, adding 4" would get my overlap to about 5". Still very much on the small side, but it might get me into territory where a lower horsepower shaft might have smaller yokes and give me enough shaft. Pats are spendy though...I'd rather have the correct shaft if one is out there since I don't use the 3pt for many other implements.

I have one I used on my old 2002D and 1301 tiller before I modified my tiller for a longer shaft use. It has been welded on and modified. All the way together it measures 17-1/4 center to center of pins, about 21-1/2 when just a tad together. No reason it could not be cut off another 1/2" or so if needed. If you are pretty confident it would work for you I will ship it to you for shipping cost. If interested pm me with your details .
