Tractor
Kioti DK4710SE HST
Hello everyone! My name is Karas. I'm looking to buy a almost new tractor soon. Just sold my Jinma 284 XL Pro Manual 28hp after owning it for a year or so. Before Jinma I didn't even know I can get a tractor and was working on my lot the hard way, by hand for the last 6 years. At first I wanted to add grapple, third function to Jinma but decided to sell it and buy new one with very low hours up to 100 hours bigger one or new. There is a 2017 Kioti DK4510 HS (hydraulic shuttle shift) for sale priced at $19800 with 80 hours, loader and 6 ft bush hog. Looks like good price but my family convincing me on buying new with HST transmission. Price difference is about $5000 between new and used and could be similar price to used one DK4510 if I pick up smaller one CK3510 HST or CK4010 HST. DK loader lifts 2700lb and 41 hp at pto. I live on 5 acres with very dense pine saplings, large dead pine trees, and some pepper trees which I want to clear. I want to keep cypress trees and sabal cabbage palms and saw palmetto. I have to go around the trees most of the time. After a lot of youtubing I'm totally lost and I feel that my decision on getting Hydraulic shuttle is not a good choice for my future uses. From what I can see majority on forums suggest getting hydrostatic transmission. My tractor would be multitasking from loader work, grapple work, wood chipping, stump grinding and bush hogging/ mowing on our 5 acres. BTW, I couldn't even find proper deep review about Kioti DK series hydraulic shuttle. Any ideas will be appreciated.

I have a 2016 DK5010HS and am very happy with it. It is my first tractor so I have never used a HST to compare. It is 8F/8R so it's lowest gear/speed is higher than what the HST is quoted at. Let me know if you have other questions about the DK.

I would recommend the DK for the weight.

It will become a factor when encountering unexpected/unforeseen task.

Had the CK4010HST and took 400 hours to find a task it could not handle.

Power was not the issue, it was the weight....
Good luck....and welcome...to TBN...

Thank you guys for your responses and warm welcome! Yes, I've been thinking that weight does matter. I tried to pull smaller Brazilian pepper trees, my previous Jinma did good job on smaller ones, it struggled pulling some of them where root system was hugging around cypress tree trunk. Jinma was 2700 lb plus loader. I was searching online how exactly Kioti Hydraulic Shuttle shift works and could not fine any video demonstrating HS in operation with loader and doing a lot of reversing. Could anyone who has Hydraulic shuttle take a video of it in operation? It would be helpful to many Kioti future owners who are brainstorming choosing between HS and HST.

The DK series of tractors are an excellent value and offer a significant upgrade over the CK series in weight. I started out wanting a CK but after a demo of the DK, my decision was made. Love mine and the HS tranny is painfully simple. Push forward to go forward and pull backwards to go backwards. Your specific use and preference will dictate whether a HS or HST is a better choice.

Both great machines. Enjoy.

My understanding is, it is not a power shuttle, meaning at a stop you still need to clutch when shifting from forward gears to reverse.
Many here are of the mind set you can’t be without a HST but for me it has never been an issue operating a shuttle. Takes a few days to get used to it for most and I have never had issue running one but I was raised never owning anything without a clutch and didn’t buy an automatic till I was in my 30’s.
I typed kioti shuttle shift into you tube and got a couple vids. Kioti dk4510 shuttle tractors/woods brush hog & worksaver root grapple shows one being used lightly with what appears to me to be a real novice operator. He doesn’t run it much but you can clearly see that he needs the clutch at a stop.
A power shuttle would not need you to use the clutch when selecting between forward and reverse. So be aware of the difference.
Anyone looking for power out of the tractor would be very happy with the shuttle as it is a very noticeable difference between a 40 hp shuttle and a 40 hp HST even of the same brand tractor. A good operator with a shuttle will run circles around most HST operators.

Yes I watched this youtube video. I noticed the operator was shifting wrong pattern. He/she shifted shuttle first then shifted into gear. You suppose to shift gear first then shift shuttle from neutral to either froward or reverse.

I watched Mahindra 3550 PST in operation. It worked very nice, when you shift into reverse Mahindra PST you still don't move until you hit gas pedal, which is just like HST and even better because you still have gear drive. I was wondering if Kioti HS is similar to Mahindra's PST. From what I understand it is not. Could anyone who has Kioti Hydraulic Shuttle tell how Kioti HS operates?

Shift into gear, then shift shuttle forward or reverse. Does a tractor sits still before you press gas pedal? From my understanding if you shift shuttle forward or reverse you must go by pressing gas or engine will sputter and die like in gear, unless it has hand gas leveler RPM override set on higher RPM so it moves on it's own. I'll check at the dealer both of them. From what I have researched Mahindra 3550 PST is far superior to Kioti HS? I'm mentioning Mahindra because it was for sale locally 3550 PST with 100 hours on it for $21500 and for $23500 it was available with brush hog, rake, bx62 wood chipper, it was 2016 model. I was eyeballing it thinking about getting it but after doing lots of google wisdom homework I found out Kioti is what we want. If it's so I would prefer Kioti HST over Kioti HS. Or am I wrong? And again, my 5 acres has thousands of trees to go around them takes precise maneuvering even with 54" deck Crafstman 24hp lawn mower. I will be clearing my lot so I have 6-10 feet between trees for future easy maintenance of the property.
