That is the way to go. My dad did this more than once.
But I will share a story from the other side. My neighbors have 2 vicious, I mean ANGRY, German Shepherds. I have a barn down at the corner of my property where it meets my neighbors property. The 2 dogs bark at me while I work in my barn sometimes for hours while I work there, and if it were not for their electric fence collars, it seems like they would tear me to shreds if they broke through.
Now before I go any further, YES, I understand my neighbor is perfectly within his rights to own dogs like that. I have no problem with him. Our daughters are friends and he takes excellent care of his property.
We also own(ed) dogs. These are harmless 15lb shitzu lap dogs and they were beloved. When you walk up to them, they wag their tails and lay there expecting you to rub their belly. So back in 2016, one of them wandered off our property about 100 into their property. Their shepherds tore him to shreds and killed him. Poor little guy suffered for a few hours and then succumbed to dozens of puncture wounds. I know it’s my fault and I have no right to any relief from them. We were pretty devastated and things were tense for a year or so.
I will keep my loaded shotgun in the barn and I will fill the first one of those vicious wolfs with lead BBs if they ever come after me on my property. But I wont pursue the second S and third S. I will call them and tell them to get their dead wolf off my property. Man I hate those dogs. They bark incessantly causing us to lose sleep and make the whole neighborhood nervous when we go for walks near their property.
