Farmtrac 270 DTC
Hello All. I parked my tractor Saturday and when I went to start it later.....nothing. Battery tests good. Seem to have power at solenoid. PTO disengaged. I can't locate a clutch safety switch anywhere. I see a hooked part that stops the clutch but I don't know it's purpose. It doesn't seem to do anything else. See picture. Anybody know what that is and any thoughts on what my problem might be?

What do you mean by "Battery tests good"?

If you have not load tested the battery, you don't know condition.

That hook is probably to keep the clutch disengaged when not in use so it doesn't stick to the flywheel.
As for turning over, make sure it's in neutral and jump across the solenoid, that'll prove out the battery and starter. BE SURE TO MAKE SURE IT"S IN NEUTRAL
As JD said, are you sure the battery is good?..........Mike

My suggestion would be to clean/tighten all four(4) battery cable end connections if you have not already performed that task.

I took a screwdriver and jumped across the solenoid yesterday and it made a spinning noise. Would I need the clutch depressed?

Thank you for the advise

Good thought. Would I do that by having someone try to crank it while I run the meter?

That sounds like it is not engaging the flywheel.

If you are asking about load testing the battery, the answer is no.

Pull the battery and fully charge it such that voltage is greater than 12.6 volts (fully rested volts, not surface voltage that exists right after charging the battery). Then load test the battery with a load tester. If you don't have a load tester, take the battery to any big auto parts store (or even a Walmart Tire and Auto Center) and have it load tested for free.

Don't waste your time trouble shooting an electrical problem unless you have a known good (verified by load test) fully charged battery.
