I was also listening this morning and heard no engine fast idle noise. But it was a warm morning, and I now have 5K miles on the Ranger. When I first had it slowing down at a stop sign I would feel like it was lugging and I should put my foot on the clutch. It must be worn in a bit now and it does shift better.

tailgate liner review

I finally got this ford retailed/made tailgate liner installed today. I did look at aftermarket versions but decided against them, because they needed to much adjustment to get them to fit. This easily went on in minutes and without any fuss. Its thicker that I thought it would be at about 1/8 of an inch and as seen in the photos, is very much textured so its not very slippery.. I like it! I should have got this a year ago..

Did you have to drill holes? It does look good,

Good news ranger owners, you can add 45-50 BHP for just $825, with warranty! Might finally be able to pull that camper up hill now. :p
]

You could probably pull it before...40-50 BHP won't make much difference.
The real problem is trying to stop it.

My problem is that I am comparing this issue to the non issues I had with the 3.6 V6 in the GMC Canyon. The engine does not have the low end torque of the ecoboost but has more horsepower albeit at a higher rpm. But it is a smooth running engine.

How is everyone liking (or not) there Ranger?? TC??? If you are considering one, feel free to ask the owners here any questions. I bet you could get one heck of a discount today!

I like it a lot. I have just had it over a year and enjoy driving it.
I traded 2007 in for it and have no regrets.
But it is larger. I tow a small (4' X 6') utility trailer for my handyman business.
With the older Ranger I had no problem backing it into place.
It gets lost behind the new, larger Ranger.
Time for a bigger trailer.

For me the "jury is still out". I like ride and the comfort and the seating position for me is excellent. As I have said on some of my earlier posts I am still not a huge fan of the 2.3 Ecoboost engine. The engine, along with the ten speed transmission, is not as good as the 3.6 and eight speed in the GM's version of the mid size pickup in my opinion. I drive pretty conservatively and I am getting about one mpg less with the ecoboost vs the 3.6 in my Canyon.

I've complained about all of the electronic controls that have replaced switches and dials but I am slowly adapting. I have started to use Ford's Adaptive Cruise Control feature more and more and I think I like it. It does eliminate braking and then resetting the cruise control when encountering slower traffic on the freeway. I like the warning system that tells me of an approaching obstruction in the front or rear of the truck. I find annoying the golf cart starting system so that is turned off each time unless I forget it.

So overall its a pretty good truck, just a little disappointing for me. Now, if Ford ever tosses in the 2.7 Ecoboost count me in. It would still have the "quirky and jerky" ten speed but I would live with that if that engine was offered.

I'll preface this by saying that I don't plan to be in the market for a new truck for another 5 years or so (and never buy new, but a used one of these is something I'd consider). Long-term durability and repairability are high on my priority list since I tend to buy vehicles used and keep them a long time.

How do these turbo'ed small engines stand up over time? ISTM that the more HP you squeeze out of an engine, the less life it will have unless there's a free lunch I haven't heard about. What about repairability? I've heard that some modern engines are basically throwaways when something fails.

I agree with you on electronic controls, unfortunately you can't escape them anymore...just one more expensive repair when (not if) it breaks. What do you mean by golf cart starting system?
Do these have the telematics systems that phone home? Can it be disabled without bricking the vehicle?

Not being a fan of testing new technology, I checked into the history and longevity of these Eco-bost engines Ford makes and found they'd been around for many years and users have been pretty happy with them. Yes, they have had an occasional problem but overall, pretty darn good. Having said that, they might not be the best for your needs.
