Probably one of the greatest tractor men of history did this for a living...

R.G. LeTourneau, credited with inventing the modern bulldozer, had a job rebuilding batteries for a trolley line. This caused him to learn how to use a welder to fuse lead plates together, which caused him to weld his first construction equipment together. By World War Two, 40% of the heavy equipment used in the war was of his machine. 90% of his money went to charity, and to this day, his technical schools live on.

All because he took a job scraping plates for a Trolley Company in the early 1900's and learned how to weld lead.

It used to be quite common, back when the batteries had tar sealed tops.
A lot of places would offer rebuilt batteries for about 1/4 of what new ones cost.
It all depended on the shop and rebuilder as to the quality of the rebuilt one.

I am annoyed that the video did not show the top being put back on. He filled it and charged it but only mentioned using some adhesive to glue the top back on. I fast forwarded to the end, actually only interested in that aspect.

HaHA, I did the same thing, I forward to the end to see the top being sonic welded or something. what a dissapointment.

Maybe a bit of Gorilla Tape. He also only mentioned but avoided the little issue of reconnecting the posts that he had cut off.

That is a very good read, I read it over 30 years ago and now that it's been brought up, I may read it again.
