Battery powered grease gun recommendations?

Does anyone have an idea about the likelihood of that hose blowing up in your hand if the zerk is plugged and you have to really crank down the full 10,000 psi? I had a friend experience that with a pneumatic years ago. Nothing I would want to see again.

I can see the value of the Lock-N-Lube preventing that because you shouldn稚 have to hold the hose after you lock it on. But if you were holding it could that hose blow out. Haven稚 seen this mentioned.
I have had the plugged zerk experience. On the Dewalt there is a pressure relief valve set at about 10,000 psi and grease will come out of that if it won't go into the zerk.

A hose on a grease gun has almost zero volume,, so the high pressure times the volume,, still equals almost zero.

It takes a lot of volume to store energy when compressing a liquid. There is no volume in the tiny hose,,,

It is like comparing an air compressor tank exploding to a fart,,
both have pressure, the fart has less volume, and less pressure,,,
Ya, liquids transmit energy but dont store it. Compressed air is a huge coiled spring waiting to kill you. Grease not so much. Hydraulic leaks are scary, but only when under continuous pressure.

My Dewalt has a relief valve I've popped a few times on a few stuck zerks. Messy as some grease oozes out, but not dangerous.

10,000psi is scary, but the hose is so small there is less total force. It's much easier to make small hoses strong than big ones.

In 2004 I was about to buy an air compressor grease gun when a friend suggested a battery operated one in lieu of less effort with the air tank. I bought a Lincoln...I believe it to be 16 years old now. I paid $200 for it new and it works very well. I only use it maybe 2-3x a year (1 1/2 tubes average) It has a rechargeable battery. It is a pleasure to use.

About 40 years ago I had my son in law working for me on a heavy equip. construction job. After the shift was over he would stay late and service all the equipment. One evening he was greasing a FEL and someone had removed the spring that comes on all the flex. grease hoses I've ever seen. He got to a particularly tough fitting and had his hand tightly on the hose when it blew out.It injected his hand full of grease in a second. Luckily we were pretty close to a large hospital and I took him to the E.R. . They called in a specialist who told us that if we hadn't taken him in as soon as we did he could have easily lost his hand. As it was he spent 2 or 3 days in the hospital and never did regain full use of his left hand.

Power grease guns are potentially dangerous and you should always be sure that the spring on the outside of the hose is in place. This is another case where the Locknload could have prevented a serious injury but we had never heard of them back then.

it filled his hand?!?

Happy you got him there quick.

Yes, it looked like he had a boxing glove on. The hole in the hose was just a pin hole.

I am very happy that I bought the Ryobi 18 vt grease gun a few months ago! I have added an extra hose and the Lock & Lube XL long reach and it is very easy to use -- I keep everything well lubed now (quieter FEL, etc.), mostly with the highly rated "virtually waterproof" Lucas 10301 Extra Heavy Duty Grease (green). I found, after removing the zerk grease fitting plastic cap &/or cleaning the zerk tip with a rag, it sometimes is helpful to push the zerk ball bearing in just a touch (1/32") with a small HFT probe/pick to insure it isn't stuck shut. The youtube reviews agree with my experience: Make Greasing Easy Again - Ryobi P341 18V Grease Gun - YouTube

Deal alert: Milwaukee grease gun
Went to Home Depot to buy m18 grease gun finally, they wouldn’t price march from nearby Acme Tool Crib (missed store hours by 5 mins). So looked online and found it $20 cheaper on Amazon. Not a big fan of online vs local, but HD made that decision easy. Lowest price on the grease gun in a year.

Great! What was your final cost?
