I wasn’t impressed with the electronic HST controls on the NX when I drove one. If the newer DK has a more traditional feel that alone would have me lean heavily toward the DK.

Well it wasn't so much the electronic portion that bothered me. For example the electronic HST pedals are very nice. They are smooth and easier to push down than the mechanical pedals. The electronic cruise and all of those controls operate flawlessly and I would have no concern about them. It's really just the gear selector that I didn't care much for. The NX series is a straight-line handle for Low-Med-High range with neutral in between each. It requires a little force to move the handle so when it would break free I often found myself sliding past the gear I wanted to select and putting it in neutral. I'm sure it would improve with practice and would become a non-issue, but during the test drives it was definitely more difficult than the DK.

The DK series on the other hand is no-nonsense. It's very clear whether you are in gear or in neutral, and even with no experience on the machine you can operate the gear selector without having to look down and check handle position. There's no potential for moving past the gear that you want to select. Left-forward is low, left-back is medium, and right-back is high. Just shove it into gear and go. It's also much easier to throw into neutral when you need to get off the tractor but want to keep it running.

After two weeks of operating:

1. You won't remember that there was a difference.
2. You will be surprised how seldom you change ranges.

What I experienced was that there was a lag time with the newer HST controll. It just seemed to take too long to respond to my foot. Drove me nuts for the entire test ride. Some folks will say you will get used to things when we find something we don’t like but I for one don’t. If I don’t like something during the test run I won’t like that particular aspect every time I operate it, so it’s not getting used to it it’s what your willing to live with and I want a price discount if they want me to live with it and an other model or manufacturer has better.

It seems it was just the range selector he didn't particularly care for.

Yea that was all I noticed and like you said, with a little bit of use I'm sure I would grow accustomed to it and never think about it again. I just prefer the simplicity of the DK. There's no "feel" required.

Either would be an excellent choice.

Understood well what he didn’t like, also don’t think he will ever be comfortable with it and as most wont loosen up enough to make him happy till his great great grandson has his first wedding!

I love my Yanmar YT-359. Has plenty of power to has been an amazing machine. The transmission is the major selling point for me.

Well... I said I was all over the map. Ended up buying a used 2019 Massey Ferguson 1742 HST with 150 hours that is already equipped with 3rd Function and a grapple. Massey is not a brand I had considered but when the deal popped up locally I started to research it and in terms of features it was quite comparable to the Kubota Grand L's (minus the HST+) and the Kioti NX series. The savings were significant and it had been well taken care so hopefully should serve me well for years to come. It is being delivered tomorrow.
