Kubota BX2200
Hello, friends.

Thankful to be here.

I recently inherited a nice Kubota BX2200 with 600 hrs on it. I love this machine. I have noticed a noise coming from what I think is the HST (in the back between the back wheels) while I'm sitting still, even idling, but only after the tractor has done some work. It's not the typical whine you hear while running the HST during operation. Rather, it's a higher pitch whine I notice after I stop the tractor and have it in idle. It doesn't make this noise when I start it up for the first time but, again, only after I run it for a few minutes.

Below are two videos showing the tractor running for the first time today, while the latter is after I used it for a bit. You can hear the whine in the second video. While it is not prominent in the video, I can hear the whine while sitting on the tractor, over the engine idling, and through ear protection.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Sorry, guess I'm too old to hear high pitched whine...

Thanks for posting the links for me.

You can hear the whine better toward the end of the second video. Like I said, it is more faint in the video than it is in real life.

To my untrained ear, possibly fluid over a relief valve? 3pt lever not centered would be my first guess.

Does it go away when moving?

Does it happen continuously when operating, or only appear after when using certain functions? How is the hydro fluid level? When was the fluid last changed?

To answer your questions:

1) No, once I have used the tractor for really any length of time, this whining occurs, and continues until I turn it completely off. It's just most noticeable when I'm idling.

2) The HST fluid level is full. I've checked that regularly.

3) I believe the HST fluid was changed at 500 hrs, so 100 hrs ago.

Is there any play in the hst foot control, should be none ? Hst might just be a hair out of N .

That's would be the next thing to check. Grease up the linkage. Operate in 2WD/4WD, Hi/Low, see if it makes any difference in sound while operating.

Does it make the noise with the shift lever in low, neutral, or high, some or all? Just 2 wd or 4 wd or both? If you lightly feather the treadle does the noise change or go away? What were you doing before the noise started? At all rpms or just low or high?

The noise is there whether it is in gear or not. It doesn't matter. Same with 4WD. The noise appears after using the tractor in any capacity. It doesn't matter if I'm mowing or just driving. It seems like it just needs to get warm and be used, then it starts. One thing I did notice is that the noise will subside a little if I engage the hydraulics to lift the mower deck. The noise subsides only while lifting, though. As soon as I stop lifting the deck, the noise returns.

Does the lever for the mower deck also control the 3pt arms? It may not be returning to center (a neutral position, stopping the flow of the hydraulic fluid) after being released. Try minutely manually adjusting the lever up or down while running, see if it makes a difference.
