Zd1211 deck height

So I was messing around with my zd1211 72 side discharge. I wanted to reset deck level adjustments. Going by the book it says to set to 3 on dial and set your blades at 3” and level side to side and front to back. At setting 3 with fine tuning bolts backed all the way out I can only get down to 3 1/2” at the blade.
So 3 on the dial really isn’t 3” cutting height. Although when at 5 it drops down to the ground and 4.5 is all the way up, almost like it’s off one. Been like this since new and only has 80 hours on it. Is everyone else’s like this as well? I did take apart side panel and you can’t take dial out and rotate it one notch easily.

I have a zd21, but it seems the numbers are similar. I set my deck at 3, at 2.5 it feels like i'm scalping the yard at places, and 3.5" is a bit to wild and doesn't cut the random wild flowers that come up. 3 seems to be the sweet spot for me. The most important thing is it's cutting level. And yes, 3 is not 3" cutting height. it's just level 3.

My ZD1211 72 Rear Discharge deck height is also off about 1/2 too.

I hadn’t had to adjust anything : but the blades measure 1/2 higher off concrete floor than the dial knob shows.

I hadn’t raised it up higher & checked tho

How do you like the rear discharge?

The numbers on the dial are reference points. They do not refer to the cutting height in inches.

I love it as I mow heavy thick grass around the farm. I知 not waiting on grass clippings to be processed.

I do have to dump radiator screen every couple hours tho.
