For people with too much money?

I have only used the Bobcat version of the small standup track loader. They are super handy in small areas and can do way more work than you would think. Standing up actually worked great as my legs absorb the bumps. I did landscaping in a back yard and it was way faster than a CUT would be because of it's size and how tight it can turn. By the time a CUT could get a load of dirt, dump it, turn back around and get more, the MTL would have done 4 trips. I would find a uses for one!:laughing:

Another thing....they are easy to get off of and back on quickly. They are great for people that want to get jobs done quickly without needing a bunch of space to maneuver it.

I get a chuckle, and occasional head shake, when someone who cannot imagine how they'd use a piece of equipment categorize it as an extravagance.

We had three, 12' x 12' stalls which; (1) Needed to be dug out down to 18" (2) Dug out deeper in the center to place a 55 gallon plastic drum with several 3" holes drilled in the top, covered by landscape fabric (3) Several layers of stone dust to bring the stall floor back up to ground level. Unfortunately, the doorways into the stall were only 4' wide, FEL bucket was 5'. The best I could do was park the tractor near the doorway and toss in what I dug out by hand then, as the last step, fill the FEL with stone dust and shovel it into the stall. One of these mini-excavators would have been a back saver. And, as someone else pointed out, they'd be a big help when just cleaning out stalls.

Reading this and your post just above it, I'm thinking how much better it is for your back and overall health to be standing vs sitting. That's probably not something I should mention on a tractor forum, though.

Very popular here for landscaping and reno work on small blocks, demolition crews use the full size bobcats, access is the big thing with them with new developments where I couldn't get the BX between the house and the fence.

Speaking of which, we had some tree guys out the other day and they had one of those spider type tracked man lifts. he said it would narrow down to 34 in and he could drive through a 36-inch door. he said there are some jobs he does working has to drive through the back door in a garage to get into the backyard as there is no other access.

Was talking with my in-laws yesterday and we need to rent one of those tracked mini skid steers with the trencher to put in some drain tile once things dry up a little bit.

Last fall my in-laws had some tree work done in their back yard. The guy brought out a little crawler manlift, a dingo with a grapple, a chipper and two helpers. They were in and out in a couple hours. Hardly any lawn damage. :thumbsup:

On the subject of small machines, we have decided to start up our garden again after a 3 year break. I had my PT425 with a bucket sitting in the garden while my wife and I were planting. Oldest kid comes out (been with us for 6 weeks on quarantine) and asks how I got the machine in the garden. I said "Through the gate." She said nuh-uh!
"Yep"

So I got on it and drove it through the gate out of the garden. :laughing:

We had a trench dug at work and a small digger came in, I think it was a Kubota but it lifted itself on the blade and digger, narrowed the tracks then went through a standard door in the garage, when out it was back up on the blade and digger and moved them out again, unloaded, duig the trench and loaded again in less time than two men with shovels.

I hate open heights. When I was young, I was fearless. Rock climbing. Diving out of trees into lakes. Climbing high tension towers. No problems. Around age 24 I started getting the willies near open heights. Maybe it's because that's when I stopped drinking. :laughing:

Anyhow, I hate going near windows over about 4th floor. Looking over cliffs. Sears Tower was hard to get off elevator on observation deck.

All this is weird, because I love small airplanes.

Anyhow, I have to go on rooftops often at my job to do inspections and PMs on fans, air handlers, and such, and I have to use a 30' man-lift to change lightbulbs. I wear a safety harness on the roofs and feel sorta comfortable. The man-lift you can't wear a safety harness, because it is so small, that if you fell out of it and were tethered to it, your body weight would pull it down on top of you. That's the factory literature that says that. Sounds crazy. But that's the truth. YIKES! I hate that thing!
