What model of disc harrow

I remember one set of discs we had (Made In England) didn’t use manufactured bearing assembles. Just two cast pieces with a grease nipple. No easy off the shelf fixes for those.

When Dad had his farm equipment sale, back in 1987, I bought his old pull type 8ft tandem disc. I bought it because I had cut my eye teeth in tractor operation pulling that disc when I was 7. That's the type gang bearings it uses.

Ten years ago I used that disc to till in 15 acres of CRP grass seed. Pulled it with my previous L4400 Kubota. The front discs are barely larger than the cast iron cones between them.

Sorry to bring up this old post but wanted y'alls advice. Picked up a used 8' disc from a guy down the road. Has 1 disc that is completely destroyed and the rest of the front discs aren't in very good shape either with a lot of dings and missing material. Took one gang off tonight to see what pattern and diameter the hole was. Nut came off pretty easy and end disc came right off but the 7.5" spacer is completely seized up and i can't get any of the rest of it apart. The gang is completely off the frame as i said but I have no idea how to get that shaft out if it's that seized up?

The guy I bought it from had some new bearings and discs with it but I think he tried to fix it himself, couldn't get it apart and sold it.. He has 3 discs, but 2 have the wrong hole pattern and 1.5 bearing sets also with the wrong shaft pattern. The bearings are for a 1" square shaft and this disc has a 1" round shaft.

Any ideas how to get it apart?

My back up plan was to lick my wounds from getting duped with this and just order all the parts to build 2 new front gangs from Agri Supply. However the bearings off the disc itself are identical to the 1" square collar type bearing from the website. I can buy all the parts i need except they don't have an axle long enough....? The longest 1" square axle they sell is 42" and the one on the disc is 47-48".. tough to measure exact with jagged discs still seized up on there.

Replacing discs is one of the funner jobs in ag..... I would start soaking the spool (spacer) with a penetrating oil (not wd40) Some good hits around it with a hammer to help work the oil in. Time is your friend, let it set and soak and keep rapping it with a hammer.

Carefully use heat, it seems to help the penetration oil

Perfect place to try a 50/50 mix of ATF, and Acetone. Works better than anything off the shelf, including Kroil. and a lot less expensive..!! Just get a quart of each to try it. I now buy ATF by the 2 gallon jug at Rural King, and Acetone by the gallon at a big box store, so it's always on hand.

Use an old dish detergent bottle with a snap top lid, to keep the acetone from evaporating. If you could stand the gang on end, the pour some in the cone of the spool and let it soak in. It will creep in places no other penetrant will.
