For me the "jury is still out". I like ride and the comfort and the seating position for me is excellent. As I have said on some of my earlier posts I am still not a huge fan of the 2.3 Ecoboost engine. The engine, along with the ten speed transmission, is not as good as the 3.6 and eight speed in the GM's version of the mid size pickup in my opinion. I've complained about all of the electronic controls that have replaced switches and dials but I am slowly adapting. I have started to use Ford's Adaptive Cruise Control feature more and more and I think I like it. It does eliminate braking and then resetting the cruise control when encountering slower traffic on the freeway. I like the warning system that tells me of an approaching obstruction in the front or rear of the truck. I find annoying the golf cart starting system so that is turned off each time unless I forget it.

So overall its a pretty good truck, just a little disappointing for me. Now, if Ford ever tosses in the 2.7 Ecoboost count me in. It would still have the "quirky and jerky" ten speed but I would live with that if that engine was offered.

Like you, I've learned how to make the controls work for our needs. So over time, I've got to liking the dash controls and cruise-control more and more. I absolutely love the lane control mucky, muck and back up camera! The engine has buckets more power than we ever need, and that includes pulling our camper through hill country at 70mph. I still can't believe how good of MPG it gets. Seems the ranger has quite a few more ponies than the Canyon has... We wanted that for trailer towing adventures.

I drive pretty conservatively and I am getting about one mpg less with the ecoboost vs the 3.6 in my Canyon.

Supposedly, GM is changing their engine options for their mid trucks to only one for the 2021's. Reports are that they will only have one engine available, a 2.7-liter four-cylinder, with a 10 speed tranny.

old dog update

Some of you might know, we've got an older mutt who has struggled to jump into the rear portion of the cab. I know some of you guys got dogs so maybe this might help them out. With the threshold being slippery paint, I got the idea of adding some "anti-skid" tape there. We got warm here today so I took that opportunity to add that tape. It worked well and I'd guess this will help the old gal out. In the 1st photo you can see the scratches she'd made trying to get in. Suppose I could have posted this elsewhere?

That should make for a nice mid-size truck. The GM 2.7 I4T is a good engine, problem is, in the full-size Silverado, it gets compared to the 2.7 Ecoboost F150, which out-performs the GM easily. Put it into a Colorado/Canyon however, it should compare well with the Ford 2.3 Ecoboost.

Might push Ford to put the 2.7EB into the next Ranger redesign. That would be a fun truck!

Agreed. I’m surprised they are dropping their diesel though.

After dinging my doors one to many times, I added door edge protection. Will my fuel mileage go down .000001%?

Looks neat.
I need that for both the Ranger and my wife's car that parks next to it. Is it a specific size? Link?

I like those. The only thing wrong is that the people who need them the most won't install them. I try not to park in tight spots but when I do, I will use my hand for a protector if there's any chance of my door connecting with another car.

Not being a fan of testing new technology, I checked into the history and longevity of these Eco-bost engines Ford makes and found they'd been around for many years and users have been pretty happy with them. Yes, they have had an occasional problem but overall, pretty darn good. Having said that, they might not be the best for your needs.

The offerings in this segment have very different tastes so you have to drive them all.
