Zd1211 - anyone removed the ROPS?

Be sure you save all the ROPS parts for later use. Some places will not take a trade in or repair tractors/ lawn mowers if any of the safety devices are removed. We have a local large JD dealership that would not work on one of my zero turns because I took the belt covers off the deck. I told the manager the covers were a PIA and collected too much debris underneath. He told me nicely to go home and get them so they could work on the unit. Said there had been law suits over folks getting hurt and blaming the dealerships for the missing safety devices. We live in a whacky world these days and everyone has to cover their financial butts!

That’s absurd. A simple note in the narrative of the work order describing the missing safety equipment and the customer’s unwillingness to purchase or provide the missing parts covers the dealership. Everyone moves on.

Mines still on I've wheelied out from some tree branches after getting the rops caught on it in the lowered position. It makes a nice ski jump. My yards not flat but i have no ditches and nothing more than a few % grade i definitely don't need the rops

Sure thanks Utopia good point , I will save them for sure, however:

1. There is about zero change I will take this mower to a dealer for repair or service.
2. There is no way I would trade in this mower ever. Selling it one day maybe, but I hope not.
More likely it could go with the property sale one day in future and for sure I would install the ROPS before a prospective property buyer even came over.

Mine got cut off after the first tree that almost flipped me.
(First time I mowed)
Made a good bracket for the shelf I screwed a tool box to.

I don't "sell" stuff, I use it until it's ready for the scrap yard.

We are talking about a zero turn lawn mower not a tractor. Certainly depends on your location but on flat ground with no ditches or anything like that I think it is virtually impossible to flip this thing. Tractors are an entirely different story. They can be flipped with loads, FEL having things high, they have much higher center of gravity, even a tire could fall in a big hole and cause a tip over. None of that applies to a lawn mower.

I have been told that I have the last Gravely 24G still in captivity that has the roll bar installed,,,

Not many machines have a lower center of gravity than a rear engine Gravely,,
Heck, the mower deck on this machine weighs more than many complete zero turn mowers,,

I ain't arguing for,, or,, against the topic,, just showing my favorite mower,,

so what is under the hood of that thing, fuel tank maybe. seems like they could have sloped it more to improve forward visibility. Nice to see pics of old stuff still being used today.

BIG fuel tank, BIG battery, and a hydraulic tank.

Heck, most Gravely G-series tractors have more steel in them then the average car! Best mower for hill climbing. Preformed many a service on them. 2 a day max with all the bearings needing greasing. Clutch adjustments were a pain.
