RTV 1100 for snow removal

Like what tomtint said, it all depends on the area your plowing. I need something for close quarters and it needs to turn around in a small area. The neighbor has a big excavating business and he uses trucks to plow. If we have a bad storm, he will use the big endloader with the 12' plow. I clear out the end of his drive at the road because I can do it easier. His trucks are much better on his mile drive and large building area.

I already have 2 trucks with plows and (2) 130HP farm tractors with plows.
Looking for something for small townhouse type driveways and wide sidewalks.
Toolcat too expensive and might be a little too big on sidewalks.

I know you haven稚 used one, but would you think better results could be had with a heavier V plow mounted on the RTV1100?
The RTV 1100 can hold some weight in the bed to compensate for heavier plow and help with rear wheels traction. Cab would be nice with heat, defrost, wipers.

I have a 9.5' V Plow on my F450 dump. Its certainly faster than any straight blade I have ever had. Probably never go back to a straight blade again. IMO, the best thing for the RTV may be a small snow box instead of a plow.

So if you had an 1100 with a heavier V-plow, full cab and 500lbs in the bed, do you think it would do better?
Im still looking for a deal on a Toolcat, but again expensive to buy, own and repair.
Hope I don’t come across as looking for any of you to tell me to buy an RTV1100, I really appreciate hearing the down side of the RTV in snow.
I guess what has me scratching my head is I see so many in service plowing snow......

I've never had a problem moving any kind of snow with it. I have the OEM 6' plow with actuator lift and hydro power angle with a rubber strip on the cutting edge so I don't tear up gravel or scratch asphalt.

I love the machine for snow removal, no regrets.

So if there was 6 Inch of snow laying, it would plow it fairly easy? Or would it get thrown around? Do you put weight in the bed like I do with my truck?

HD--6" is no problem whatsoever, I've plowed 9-10" quite a few times.

No, I've never put anything in the bed or added any weight, this thing is already heavy. I have the ATV tires and have never added chains or anything like that.

Obviously it isn't going to remove all snow that has been driven over and packed in--pretty normal there and I wouldn't expect it to. And like any "smaller" machine (not a dump truck) you should move the spoils well out of the way so they don't freeze over--You don't want to try to move a 3' high frozen pile Doesn't do well with that, and again, I wouldn't expect it to.

As far as dislikes--Wish it would move about 10mph faster and a full front locking diff would be nice but that has only been an issue in deep mud. Only had to use the diff lock (rear) a handful of times--mostly mud.

The cab and HVAC is fantastic when you're out in the freezing cold for a few hours.

This is an expensive piece of machinery and I know how you feel doing the research but I have no regrets.

The speed..or absence of it ...is also another downside to plowing with it. It does not move fast enough to get snow rolling and flying away from the angled direction of the blade. You plow 4" of snow at a angle..the next pass is a full 8" and you are lucky if you can use 2/3 of the blade on subsequent passes. Its painfully slow. As I said before, I think a small snow box would probably be better on one of these RTVs

I'd factor in any hills you have. plowing up and down hills is something different. it takes more weight and traction.

Well, to be honest, I'm not plowing a 4 lane highway. Just 10-12 foot wide driveways and a 1200' right of way. Usually takes two, maybe 3, passes with the blade angled. I never had a problem moving snow with mine. Speed is for the fun factor, not plowing in my case.
