You can't find a DownEaster 5x8 dump near you ?

Peter: Do you like the DownEaster trailers?
My son has one on the Cape, that he uses for asphalt roof cleanup, and the trailer bottom seems quite flimsy to me.
I wonder if they can be bought/ordered with a 3/16" bottom.

Downeaster trailers are ok , Not many trailers made here in the northeast so you pay more for shipping , U could always just weld a 1/4'' sheet steel on top of it ...

I'm also looking for a dump trailer in the 6' x 10' (9k GVWR) range and contacted Downeaster - only to learn they discontinued all their trailer lines on 1/1/20. They did direct me to some dealers who may have leftover stock.

I'd really prefer to buy a decent used one, but that seems to be an oxymoron. The used trailers I looked at were either VERY used or only slightly less than new.

Question - what are "deck over" trailers? I thought I understood until seeing a dealer website that listed two different models (deck over and non?) that looked the same.

Also, while I like the idea of a trailer with ramps that I could use to occasionally move my MF 2310, that looks like a very high center of gravity. What's it like doing something like that?

Thanks all,
jaybrad

Makes sense and is what I thought. That'sエ how they all looked in the pics so maybe the dealer just dropped it from the description.

The drop down sides are cool, but not a feature I need.

Thanks,
Jaybrad

Deck over trailers DO have a higher loaded center of gravity.
Because of that, they will have a tendency to be less stable with a heavy load, especially when towed by a marginally capable vehicle.
Obviously, they also have a more pronounced ramp/access angle.
Their primary benefit, is being able to load from either side, without any fender obstruction.

Occasionally hauling your tractor in a dump trailer for short distances might be suitable. However, I like my trailer to be longer/wider than the tractor as it pulls a lot easier... which is why my goal is a small dump truck with a 10K equipment trailer.
The dump trailer was only a short term option until I can buy the truck I want. While I can haul it with my company Silverado 1/2 ton, I really don't want to do that on somebody else's insurance. By the time I spend $4300 for a trailer, that money would go a long ways toward my truck. So I guess that I'll be unloading by hand for another year until I get my Kubota paid off.
