Under user settings there is also an option to choose whether or not to automatically subscribe when replying.

Found it... thanks Aaron! Didn't know there was an option to not subscribe if you post. I thought that was the subscribe was the default... don't know now if that is true or not. I have mine set on control panel only notification.

I am a welding instructor for 16-24 year olds and it has totally changed now. I get to teach kids to weld, and with our program, we get them jobs after training (and follow them 18 months post-graduation) and most make more money then I do as an instructor. We have one student that is on track to be starting out at $90,000 if all works out. That is a pretty good salary for a 19 year old.
I think (biased as my opinion is) we have one of the best welding courses in the country for those that qualify, only because a student can take 2 years to learn the trade, have no limit on consumables they do not have to pay for, have other hurtles eliminated for them like obtaining their high school diplomas and drivers licenses if they do not have that, but also get PAID to attend. Then issues like housing at their employment is also arranged for them. It is a pretty sweet deal really.

The Votech school in Lincoln (the city, not the county) also has an instructor with a very good reputation. He has sent a few of his students to the Welding Nationals (?) and I believe that at least one of his proteges took first place.

You dont want that stack of dimes look when using a low hydrogen rod. Keep the rod in the puddle and either drag it or slightly weave it side to side, but DO NOT step it back and forth to try to create the stack of dimes look. That look is strictly for 6010 in stick rod. One can get that look with MIG< TIG and FCAW if you like but it doesnt do any thing for strength of weld. A smooth bead is the strongest.

Was running low on 7018, bought a box of 7014 to try. So much easier to use than 7018. I was constantly at the belt sander to rework the tip of the 7018 in between beads. The 7014 lights right up each time. Less sticking, too.

I'd never thought about the belt sander for 7018, I always just tap it on something, once you break the cap off it'll work, even if it sparks when you tap it... many people just keep a brick around to tap on...
That said, I don't know if I've tried 7014... I have a near lifetime supply of 7018 and 6011 though so I'm probably set...
