Rant on shipping

For heavy stuff several times I asked that it be sent to the closest freight terminal for will call. Take my trailer to the terminal and they load it with their forklifts. Takes a half a day when all is said and done but also reduces shipping costs.

From their raised lift gate to your trailer bed?

At the FedEx terminal in Sacramento there are spaces for customers trailers in the parking lot. When they locate your pallet a warehouse guy runs it down a long ramp to ground level then puts it on your trailer. When you arrive your job gets put in the queue with everything else they are doing and can take a while.

There are about 30 semis backed up to the loading docks. Your stuff might be in one of them or stacked somewhere in the building.

Like many others I order a lot of stuff online. I used to order a lot of fishing stuff mail order back in the late '50's.
Up until about the last few years if I was told a package had "shipped" then that meant the item was in the shippers control (USPS, FedEx etc.).
Now that seems to have been redefined to "we are thinking of shipping you what you ordered" by many non-Amazon firms.
I'll order something online and a few hours later get an email "YOUR PACKAGE HAS SHIPPED".

Darn, happened again, so I wrote them
Please stop the practice of sending an email saying something has shipped when all you have done is create a label. Shipped means it's in the possession of the delivery agent and out the warehouse door, not sitting in your warehouse waiting for pickup next week.
It's Thursday afternoon.
I need a more succinct response I can send to these firms that "shipped" means label created.

I ordered parts for my backpack sprayer on 6/10 and the website said orders are shipped within 2-3 days. On 6/16 I received an email saying my order was shipped. On 6/17 at 11:00pm the package was received by USPS to actually start shipment. Expected delivery is 6/22.

This is a First! Ordered a box of 50 3-ply face masks and a low pressure tire gauge from Amazon on Saturday, it shipped on Wednesday and arrived Thursday (today)! The Planet's must have been aligned or something?

A few years ago I ordered a wool coat from a famous outdoor supplier in Freeport Me. The first time they shipped the order it was completely messed up and I received a pair of "Petite Lady's jeans." I called them up and we got quite a laugh out of it. They reshipped my coat but by then it was the Christmas season. The order showed "delivered" but I didn't receive it. UPS had left it at an abandoned building a mile up the road... not the first or last time that they've done that. (My number is on the road at the end of my driveway.) I thought that's where it was but can't go waltzing into somebody's dooryard looking for it; can't contact UPS directly; so I had to call the vendor and reorder the thing again. Meanwhile it's getting cold and I need the coat. I was out working in the yard when UPS showed up with the package they had left at the wrong address, so I called the vendor and cancelled the replacement order. I've lived here since 2003 and have been getting orders through UPS for all of that time; you would think they would know where I live by now.

That is what I do and I have done it a dozen times or so. They want you there NOW when they call, do not make them wait. They are in the business of moving freight and will not appreciate your freight sitting there waiting for someone to pick it up. They forklift it onto your truck/trailer, you sign for it and away you go.
