I would build the 30x40 shop and move my dads stuff in it and finish the truck project with his tools.

Wish I had said that.

Very sorry for your loss... it is a new chapter in your life.

As you have the means and ability it sounds like consolidation on your terms

My current home was filled to the gills when the owner passed.

I did buy it through the estate lawyer and gave 90 days after close for the move with more time as a rent back if needed.

Everyone was happy in that I bought as-is and said they could leave behind whatever they wanted.

Fair price on appraisal and picked up some nice tools and furniture.

It was a great comfort the heirs knowing I the items found a good home and 6% was deducted from the sales price as no commissions due.

Sometimes solutions are close at hand.

A mistake I have seen is paying for decades of storage fees with nothing to show.

I did donate some items to the local vocational school

Best answer IMO. While I don't recommend making a shrine for your Dad, there is nothing wrong with remembering him.

I am glad I said that, and glad others agree with me! Makes me think I am less of a hoarder than my Wife thinks I am, lol!! Sentimental old fart maybe?

If you dont get rid of the stuff, you are just passing the problem on to your children. Is that what you want to do?

That's how my Brother thinks. Today if he needs to reminisce about our Dad he asks me or I show him something of Dad's from our childhood. He always acts pleasantly surprised and says "where'd you get this?". I just grin and say I saved it. :)

Easy enough to physically get rid of stuff...

I few years ago my realtor friend had a client overseas and handled everything when the client's great aunt passed... Client never set foot in the place and 7 weeks later escrow closes.

As for small sentimental items I have found old suitcases ideal...
